How much longer before cayenne’s macan’s denigrate the porsche mystique beyond repair

I’m speaking of all the 7 year old + SUVs that simply do nothing for our marque..

Those can’t quite afford it types that drive it for 9 months. Then get a $5000 repair and trade it at the local toyota lot..

Volkswagen needs to realize they are in danger of killing the golden goose.

How many more volkswagen tiquans can they badge as a porsche and still get folks to pay the extra $$$$ over say a lexus??

This is an indictment of volkswagen and FAKE type plastic “look at me types” that drive a suv with a porsche badge affixed to its hood.

Your mom would be just as happy driving a volkswagen or audi she doesn’t need to drive a glorified touareg and falsely believe it’s a porsche.

Volkswagen does not need the porsche name to sell SUVs.

They are simply whoring the porsche name to sell overpriced SUVs.

Why not simply badge EVERY SUV they build from here out as lamborghini.

Heck send kits to all the volkswagen dealers filled with lamborghini badges..

if you're truly concerned about the marque, i would think you'd like porsche to be economically viable well into the future.

if there were no cayenne's or macan's or even panamera's there may not even be a porsche. they've got to survive just like everybody else.

unless folks like you want to put their money where their mouth is and start buying new 911/cayman's in large numbers so they can focus on just being a sports car manufacturer. a pipe dream in today's economy.

we all have a vested interest in seeing porsche be successful i would think...

I’m to the point that if they would stop building SUVs altogether...

Build something like the 944 again..

Something that they could sell for $50,000 or so..

They could probably sell 80,000 to 100,000 of those worldwide a year..

Porsche should NOT BE MASS-PRODUCING FAMILY CARS.

We all deep down know this is far more harmful than it could ever be helpful.

What's the harmful part? The massive sales volume? The high margins? You're gonna have to clarify, because I just see a bunch of inane, irrational ranting. If it weren't for the Cayenne and the Macan, Porsche would look much different and it wouldn't be better. If the SUVs trouble you, just pretend they have a VW badge. Now breathe.

I also think the porsche brand could be bought from volkswagen ag by more than a few wealthy individuals and be made ultra profitable like ferrari is today.

The business plan is simple. Build the worlds finest sports cars. Sometime only porsche could do.

Selling in the $150,000 to $500,000 range.

Something that porsche can do better than anyone in the world.

so what's the opinion on the new lambo SUV since you've brought it up? Toyota does it with the lexus line and im sure there are others.

things that are more concerning is that there was another school shooting today. that's more something to get worked up over, Porsche in the SUV market is mouse nuts IMO.

Drive a Touareg and a Cayenne back-to-back. Not at all the same truck. Touareg drives heavy and solid. I test drove a base V6 Cayenne and was surprised and impressed -I can only imagine the Turbo! Good thing I couldn't find one when my lady was in the market - we ended up with a cheap Q5.

If you (or your wife) have to have an SUV - why not make it the sportiest driving one you can find? If a sports car manufacturer needs to mass-produce a grocery getter with a hefty profit margin in order to offset the R&D that goes into their niche, low-production offerings, so be it. Everybody wins - and the brand becomes a household name. Porsche's mass-produced stuff has made the brand one of the most profitable auto manufacturers in the world - And the marketing department does a great job keeping the sporty image up.

Anything that can make Porsche profitable is fine with me, if selling Macan's to suits is what is needed so be it. Porsche has a long history of balancing the books with other stuff, remember when they sold tractors? I'd rather see Porsche SUV's than farm equipment, unless it's in my yard, then I'll take the tractor.

Technically that wasn’t Porsche. Due to reconstruction laws after WWII they weren’t allowed to make anything industrial like that. So they sold the rights and it was made by another company and branded Porsche.

Yeah, but they always did wacky things to make money, remember the 356 industrial motor running ski lifts? Or gyrocopters? I even know of one that they used on a barge.
