You would need 16" Fuchs for the tires sizes you had which I believe were offered in 77 cars. Probably pretty tough to find correct tires these days but I think there a couple companies making classics again.

I'm aware of U.S. tire specs and also the relationshio between the tires and speedo/gearbox. As Matt confirms, 205/50/15 and 225/50/15 tires were an option in '76 under certain circumstances.

But this car is a bit of an anomoly. It was ordered from the factory with several unique touches. Obviously the color-to-sample interior but the buyer also had other special requests that you geniuses haven't even noticed - like the special ordered 74-75 door pockets the factory has confirmed as original.

The car was ordered by a U.S. buyer but delivered in Germany and shipped home. At this point we believe that the tires were either special ordered or fitted at the factory at the customers request when he picked up the car. The matter is still being researched and, if correct, Porsche will be issuing a new COA showing the special ordered tires. If I chose the wrong tire size, the new owner can always switch them out. No big deal.

As for the sugar scoop headlights, I like to be able to see so I upgraded them to H4's. But if little-screaming-boy was paying attention he'd know that the original sugar scoops are included with the car and ready to switch out for concours judging.

^ agree it's not a big deal at all. I've been saying to critics that it's easy to change tires and fix height to the buyers liking.

Neither the headlight nor the tires matter from a value standpoint. New owner can do what he wants.

Haha, I saw that.

Mod's a mod.

The car with the updated headlights is an obscenity you or the new owner shouldn't be driving around in.

If it was special ordered with Pirelli P7s then Porsche would have fitted it with a 930/32 gearbox (otherwise, the speedo would be 5-10 mph off). All other 1976 Turbo Carreras had 930/30 gearboxes with standard profile tires (usually CN36s). Without any documentation, why would you think the car was special ordered with P7s?

Because I have located what I believe to be two of the original tires and information from Porsche that it was fitted with special request tires.

Based on build information in Ryan's 3.0 turbo book all US 76 930's cars were built with 60's series tires and 930/30 gearboxes.

I know Ryan and his books are as good as they get. But Ryan and anyone else who knows these cars will tell you that you could get the factory to do almost anything to a special-ordered car if you knew who to talk to or had connections (still can, actually, you should see the car I'm currently ordering).

This conversation is boring me so I'm going to stop talking about the tires and ride height. It's a great car, a Porsche Parade concours winner, and I did everything I could to make sure even the smallest details are correct. Like any old Porsche, it may always be a bit of a mystery. But I've been doing this for many years, own one of the largest private Porsche collections in the country, and have a reputation for caring about even the tiniest of details. I'm hardly an amateur and I'm confidant in my decisions. Others are free to have their own opinions but none of them know this car, or its history, like I do.

Your BAT photo shows a 930/30 transmission #439. If it was originally equipped w/ Pirelli P7s at the Porsche factory, that would make it a very unique 1976 Turbo Carrera. Even with the lower RoW ride height on '75 and '76 Turbos, those equipped with Pirelli P7s had an appearance of a high ride height.

As many have said, the ride height on the car you sold is no big deal since the new owner can buy a set of Pirelli CN36s. However, it would be worth the effort to document if the car you sold was 1 of 1, 1976 Turbo Carreras equipped w/ Pirelli P7s.

I agree. But not sure it would be one-of-one as there is at least one other U.S. turbo showing these tires on the COA. Of course, we all know how reliable that is so I take everything with a grain of salt.

That car is definitely an interesting visual, and decision making, paradox; headlights change to H4s is a sound improvement over the original puppy dog eyes (in both function and appearance), but then the poor thing is given a stance that has similar aesthetic appeal, and functionl purpose, to smearing dog shiit all over it, only worse !

Nice try. But I'm no more ashamed of my humble beginnings than I am of the rockstar lifestyle I live today.

But, by all means, keep following me. Good puppy. Sit. Now stay.

He actually has a pretty nice 930 hot rod. Different strokes for different folks.

My current Turbo far surpasses that one on all measurable parameters, except nerdism; I've never excelled at the "make it as delivered", even if it is mechanically wrong and something that the factory did to begrudgingly appease a certain governing body - I'll leave that area of expertise to the concors weenies.
