Unfortunatly the 944 motor is not an ideal race motor. They are cheap cars to buy, but the motors can go boom without warning. Even if you maintain them properly. :(

I get paint at Coatings International in Wallingford. You can go there and have them mix you paint based on the Porsche color codes. That way you'll have the proper guards red, as from the factory.

What spot of the brakes should I take an IR temp reading at? Would any spot on the rotor work or right at the base of the brake pad (where it touches the rotor)?
