OBDI Read out OBD1;how to?? and yes...rough idle!
Hi all,
First of all, I am new here and what a buch of info to find here!! Awesome. Helps a lot. I have a 1992 320i automatic and I'm trying to check the fault codes of the OBD. I've tried many times within 5 seconds etc but it doens't show anything, nothing! ALL beemers of 1992 have OBD right? Might there something be wrong with the throttle position swithes so it doens't see idle- and wide open-position??? Weird. Feel kinda stupid about that I can't get it working... And AArghlll....my idle is not nice too...only when the engine is warmed up and only at idle, all other situations it's fine. I've read 90% of all the posts but is there a final conclusion so far?? clean the iacv they gum up and cause irratic idle problems.

I posted a DIY for pulling the ICV on my E36 M3. It may be on the M3 forum. BimmerForums or bimmerDIY may have write ups too.
Cleaning mine made it worse, replacing made it better.  But it cost $100.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I know I have to pull the i.c.v. and clean but I've tried it once and it was madness!!!! The tubing is so stiff, hard to remove and difficult to reach too so I decided to let in in for a while or it would have been broken... But yes, that's my first thing to do. Anybody got anything to say about the read out question?? THANX! |

I have been told it is hard to pull codes from these cars by your meathod. I have never tried to do it that way. I am a wrench so I just use a scanner sorry I can't help you in this dept.

Yeah...tell me about it...I'm a wrench (civil aircraft) too so that's why I can't get it to work LOL! Maybe someone else can help me out?!. Thanks, Tjesse.

The acc pedal way of bring the fault codes only works on USA spec cars. All non USA cars would need to be plugged in to a computer/tool etc. I know the UK EBay shows a scangenie. I have been using one to try to sort my car. (Only does engine codes, not ABS/airbag etc)

Finally the missing link: ONLY on USA cars!!!! No wonder why I couldn't get it working..duhhh. I got all the info from the web and never read anything about USA cars only....but makes sense now. Thanks man! So now I gotta find myself a nice gadget haha. Grtz, Tjesse.
