Weird static from speakers?
Hi, I have a 1998 328is. This morning when I turned on the radio, there was some static coming out the speakers, like a semi-fuzzy radio station. I don't believe it's the speakers though because I faded the speakers to the front and back, and did the balance from right to left, and static comes still comes out, so i highly doubt all the speakers got defective overnight. Anyone know what it could be? Thanks!

bad radio
bad ground loose antenna wire at radio or rear window Does the volume of the static change when you change the vol on the radio?

Hmmmm.....when i got into my car last night, it was not staticky. After the car sat over night, this morning was quite cold (for california) about 50 degrees, and when i turned on my car, the radio was staticky again. I kept it on and as i was driving, the static would diminish and after about 3 mins, it was gone.....what could cause that? how weird...

Yes, I tried it this morning, and the static DOES increase/decrease when I turn the volume up and down.
Like yesterday, when i turned my car on first thing this morning, there was much static, and from 0-3 minutes, it got less and less, and then by about 3 minutes, no more static... Yes, BMW original radio.... |

They have 4 guides there that discuss what can cause noises. The most common I think is a bad ground.
I would check the connections at the antenna on the rear window. I would pull the radio and check the connections in the back. Then I would buy a radio because the stock radios are cheaply made and new radios are cheaply had.

Better rear speakers and bypassing the BMW amp for them did wonders, too.

This is a common problem~~>heres how you fix it!!~~>Get some electrical contact cleaner or brake clean->pull radio--> in the holes by the volumn knob on the sides and top/back
of radio===spray cleaner all inside~~>let dry & reinstall ![]() Get a towel and some rags so it doesnt drip everywheres |

BMWCowboy has a history of good info.
Personally, I'd take it apart and clean it so I could make sure it is clean and dry aftwerwards.

U dont have to even unplug radio~~>all ur doin is sprayn the backside of the volumn knob ( use the little straw that comes w/can & turn knob couple times) ~~>make sure NOT to get spray on black plastic of radio
