Need Help
I picked up an '85 318i that is in very good condition, but not running. There is no power going to the fuel pump, hence, no fuel to the engine.
I have done all the testing described in the Haynes manual, and still have no clue what the problem might be. The fuel pump fuse- #11 is good. When I bypass the pump relay with the jumper wire as described in Haynes, I still have no power at the pump. Does anyone have any ideas? Tom |

I had a similar problem with my old 320i. The culprit turned out to be a pinched wire in the loom, shorting out on the body. What I would reccomend is try checking the wires to the pump for continuity. However, it's more than likely, the problem is the fuel pump relay. It's very common for the relay to be no good on these older cars. I've seen a few of them even start working again by pounding the relay aginst something hard then plugging them back in.
Hope this helps |
