want to buy complete turbo setup

Been looking for a while. Almost got lucky once. Looking for plug and play turbo kit. Used or new. Ideally one that fits where the cat / cat bypass is on the left side of engine (I like my Fabspeed, 1 in 2 out exhaust).

Thanks

Chris

The Promotive is exactly what I am looking for. Just not the $8K+ price tag. Hoping to fine a used version or something similar.

Building your own is an option. For a modest setup its really not that complicated, however I expect you'll still land in the 4-6K range.

Headers, or if on the cheap.... J-pipe with stock heat exchangers. (if you want to retain heat, J-pipe or spend $$$) if you don't care about heat, just get headers and make more power anyway.
muffler
Turbo
Wastegate
Blow off valve
Ign retard (variety of solutions)
Increase fuel pressure. (variety of solutions)
Misc. plumbing.
Intercooler. if running a tail this should be no problem to make a universal type fit.
Oil drain. (scavenge pump, mechanical or electric) or if your lucky you can make the drain method work.

I can help you out with a set of headers and an awesome muffler if you choose to go this route. If not I'd recommend the Protomotive Stage 1 kit.

I have the J pipe but love my non turbo (one in two out Fabspeed stainless muffler). Am trying to keep it of other two out option. Please tell me a bit more about your muffler.

Thanks,

Chris

I'm not sure its possible to keep your existing muffler, since the new muffler bolts directly to the turbo. Anyway, I have a used Hooligan from RarlyL8, which was by far my favorite muffler but unfortunately didn't fit with the backdated early style rear bumper.
The Hooligan with headers=

$8k for turn-key is downright affordable.

To cut costs, maybe they will sell you the ECU chip and you put together all the exhaust, turbo, oil plumbing, induction piping and BOV yourself, vacuum/boost lines yourself.

just make sure to use the same turbo in the kit and recommended wastegate spring.

That's what I did. I was running an MSD with boost retard but decided to just go with the chip from Protomotive. Its one less component that can fail and its pretty much turn key. I would at least recommend the chip and his fuel pressure reg as a package, if one was going to piecemeal it.

I know zero about turbo charging. But I'm keen to turbo a 3.2 at some point.
I've tried searching but not really found an "easy to understand' thread where someone has done the conversion.. Would appreciate some links if someone has one?

You’re kidding right? You have a chance to buy a proven new kit from a builder with more experience than anyone else I can think of in the area for $8k and you’re gonna go dumpster diving instead?

If you can't afford, or don't want spend the 8K, no choice. Regardless, I think the dumpster diving is pretty cool, as it will be really interesting to see what he comes up with. My brother pieced together his conversion from CIS to EFI on his 930, and looks to be working out, as he was on a budget as well. Maybe he will chime in....

You don't have to go dumpster diving to get it done cheaper, as I pointed in my earlier post, you can do it for WAY cheaper IF you are willing to read and get your hands dirty. I was able to do it with $3250 total and I use a full bay intercooler.

keep your eye out for a used Protomotive kit or similar. The chip and rising rate fpr are crucial unless you're going to go efi, in which case you can do what kamaro did-Chinese turbo, i/c, wastegate etc. It all works well enough - its not Garrett or Precision quality stuff but it works.

And your muffler will sound completely different with the turbo-the turbo itself is a bit of a muffler. I use what is basically just a resonator and it sounds deep and powerful.

Impressive. A set of quality 930 headers cost most of that price.

The Protomotive does not include header. Turbo setup replaces the Cat. Cool set up. Wonder why Porsche did not do it that way.
