OEM Turbo Stud(s)/Locknuts Source Needed
Went to remove the nuts on the turbo flange and the stud came out with the nut. Looking for a source for the studs (and locknuts as well) so I can have some on hand in the event I'm unable to get the nut off the stud.
I saw Pelican had the locknuts but would like to get it all at the same time. Thanks!

I got my turbo studs from Pelican. Search the p/n (900 081 051 02), it'll come up.

I bought 4, 10mmx1.5 - 4 " long stainless steel bolts locally and cut the heads off to make studs out of them. Then used regular old stainless 10mmx1.5 nuts that take a 17mm thin wall box end wrench and lockwashers to hold the muffler on.
I don't put the studs into the turbine housing real tight, just snug so I can get them out if I want. The turbo and it's support bracket are alot easier to move around, position, and install with only one stud in the turbo at first. The cut off bolt head sections make nice approx 1.5 " long 17mm stainless bolts you can use elsewhere. I used antiseize on all the threads and have had no problems with removing it and it hasn't come loose on it's own either. The origonal copper plated 14mm wrench size lock nuts are better but they are kinda expensive. |

NAPA should have the studs. Using the smaller nuts helps.

you must have a good NAPA...the NAPA near me doesn't have $hit.

Jessus J are that tight you make your own studs?
The 14mm copper clad nuts are easier to get off an on than 17mm stainless due to thier size and they don't tend to gall with heat/age. Self tightening as well so no lock washers needed. Worth the money for something you don't buy often.

lol... sometimes
I was putting a turbo on that day and couldn't locate new studs or the exhaust locknuts in West Palm to finish it that day. I agree about the 14mm copper nuts, I just couldn't find any in West Palm that day so I tried the 17's which are cheap and easy to find and no one had studs the right length either so I cut heads off long bolts and beveled the edges of the threads with a cut off wheel on a die grinder. Worked fine. I've since bought the 14mm copper lock nuts from pelican, the porsche ones are expensive . I've been reusing the 17's as I've put turbos on and off the car because they work fine. I take the bumper and valence off as one piece so the 17mm nuts aren't difficult to get at with a thin wall box end wrench. I've heard of stainless bolts, studs, and nuts galling especially when used for exhaust but with some antiseize on the threads each time that hasn't happened to me yet. |

He he, I actually use the 17mm steel nuts when designing my mufflers. I figure if there is enough room to get a wrench on the 17s then 14s are golden.
I have to keep lubing my nuts (actually not as much fun as it sounds) with each removal as they try to seize up in short order without it.
