Wink Removing Turbo

I love the 911 turbo look (m491) but can't seem to find them for sale. So with the turbo cars coming down in price; possible to remove the turbo kit and set it to the standard Carrera? If so how difficult?

1.) For the love of God why?

2.) it would be a major PIA; you'd have to get new headers, plug up a bunch of spots in the oiling system, and probably fuss around with the CIS a bit.

If you don't want to go fast, just don't give it too much gas...

Dude you've come to the wrong corner of Pelican for that kind of question. Nobody here but adrenaline junkies and guys high on the boost pipe

If you want the "look"...why stop at the M491 when you can save yourself a LOT of time and money (it will cost you a fortune to modify it) by just buying a 930. I have a friend in New York who just bought a M491 turbo look cab for $29K and for that price you could be into a 930 and be on the road kicking back and enjoying boost right off the bat... rather than looking for parts and trying to figure out how to stuff a turbo into it with all the other attendant parts and modifications you'd have to make.

After the turbo is removed from the 3.3 engine, it would have as much performance as a Yugo thanks to the 7/1 compression ratio.

Had me in stitches!

But sounds like your better options are i) fit a wide-body kit to 3.2 Carrera, or ii) fit Carrera 3.2 engine + 'box into a 930 shell (but you may want to change to coil-overs, too).

Now, if you'd wanted to make some claims about a 'better Coefficient of Drag' and have a narrow-bodied / slope-nosed / RUF-styled 930, I could possibly understand that (without necessarily approving).. But really, what you're proposing sounds like one of those things which can be summed up with:
"Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should."

Well it would be about 5-7 grand for the motor and 2-3 grand for the tranny plus new hubs and half shafts because the 930 was unique on all that stuff and then alot of work adapting the carrera stuff into the car and the value would go down the tube. If you want the turbo look then look around they are out there although if you get a turbo and still want to do the unthinkable you will have no problem selling the motor/ tranny combo for more than the cost of the motor you are putting in. I added the turbo to my NA motor and there is nothing like the feel of the boost kicking in cant imagine not having that kick in the ass now!

Easy enough to do.

Simply remove the Turbo script from the tail and replace with Carrera script.

The 930 chassis makes a formidable N/A track car when lightened, which is the only reason I can fathom for doing such a thing. Swapping a Carrera drivetrain for the turbo is easy as the M491 option used the turbo suspension with carrera engine and 915 or G50 depending on year.

The most reasonable and inexpensive thing to do is buy a widebody converted Carrera. These are plentiful and $10K cheaper than a 930.

My advice would be to eat some turkey, drink a few glasses of wine, take nap, and think on it some more.

Happy Turkey Day, you turkeys!!

Bud , I dont post up here much but why would you buy a turbo and remove it ? X 2,000,000

god just to do that would just be the same as asking someone how to convert a 911 turbo 5speed into a 3 speed auto ?

I think a direct answer to your question is "no" you cannot make a Carrera engine out of a 930 engine by simply removing the turbo.
The 930 is a true turbo engine, meaning an engine built specifically to be turbocharged. A Carrera engine is EFI with ~10:1 compression while a 930 is CIS with ~7:1 compression.
The 930 transmission is also built specifically to be used with the long legs of a turbocharged engine and would be a miserable experience bolted to a Carrera engine.
The turbocharger is an integral part of a 930 engine and the specific component that creates the power. To remove the turbo from a 930 engine or add a 930 4spd to a Carrera engine would be akin to hobbling a race horse. To do both would be worse than driving a 912 sportomatic.
