321 can take some heat! RarlyL8 Scratch & Dent
I had a muffler returned recently that had experienced extremely high heat. Typically 321 will turn a bronze color with heat, this one is purple. It was so hot the sound deadening material inside melted.
The muffler was cut open, inspected and the sound deadening material re-packed. 321 is more resilient to heat than 304 which is why we use it. There are no cracks in this muffler and I will honor the as-new warranty. If within a year it cracks due to heat you get a new one. I have included a new short tailpipe that can be used through or below the valance. Also pictured is an older prototype waste gate dump pipe that matches the new tailpipe. It must be cut and re-welded for a perfect fit as it has no adjustment. These items originally retailed for $630 plus shipping. Scratch & Dent (or torched) price $475 shipped CONUS. ![]()

I honestly don't remember where the fellow lived, was a couple months ago. I sent a new muffler to his mechanic at no charge and he sent me back the BBQ special. If I could remember the mechanic's name I'd look it up.
EDIT - yes, Florida. Found it in the records. That muffler was over a year old when the packing material crystalized from heat. Wasn't a lot of miles on the system so I replaced the muffler body free of charge. Never had that happen before or sense. I spoke with him about this problem, never heard back. Hope whatever caused that has been cured.

That was the first and only muffler of mine that has ever failed. The reason was not known at that time and the fellow said it only had about 900 miles on it and had gotten progressively louder over time. He offered to pay me for a new one. I was just relieved to know the failure was due to above the limit operating temperatures and that the body itself was unharmed. We left the type of packing material we use unchanged as this now becomes a warning that you have a problem. This packing is not used in track or "hooligan" mufflers that are continuously exposed to cherry red turbos.

The hooligan muffler is a bit louder than the street muffler and about 1/2 as loud as a zork. It has an expansion chamber with no sound deadening material.
We are on our 3rd production run of headers. Sent a set to Florida this morning.

One quick question as you mention they match.
It looks like the exhaust pipe is cut straight whereas the WG pipe is cut more on a bias or angle. Or is this just an illusion from the pic. Thanks.

Yes they are both back-cut at the same angle. In the picture the WG pipe is on it's back and the tailpipe is on it's belly.

Lots of hard bites but it is not sold. Kind of surprised myself. It is getting close to Christmas though and spending is tough this year.
Here is a picture of that setup on my car: ![]()

Pete, you'll be happy with this one i'm sure, should be a great inbetween, basically a muffled zork, depending on your fueling system you should still get flames and turbo whistle quite a bit if you got them (flames) with your zork.

Left you a phone message Pete. You can call me at home today.
The passenger's side exit muffler is only slightly louder than the stock exit (driver's side) unit. You will hear the turbo whistle and may belch a flame. Noise level is nowhere near Zork level but is aggressive on boost. I'm working on the exchangers Scott. Will do a fitment test on the latest design tweak today or tomorrow. I don't want to introduce them until completely satisfied.
