Time to move on, need pricing help!
First off I gotta say that I love this community, especially the passion among 930 owners in particular, so it is with a heavy heart that after 8 years of ownership I am putting my beloved 930 on the market.
Given the current environment I am having a very hard time deciding how to price and market the car. Fortunately I don't "need" to sell it and therefore I am not looking to give it away. I am making room in my garage for a replacement and I am simply looking for a "fair" deal for both parties. Given that backdrop, I was wondering how the experts here would price my car if you were in my shoes and where you would market the vehicle online. Here are the specifics: 1986 930 2 owner car 46,720 miles No paintwork, no accidents, no stories. Not concours condition but I'd call it a 9 out of 10 inside and out. Stacks of records and a ton invested over the years to build it right and keep it running perfectly. Mods: Kokeln Intercooler K&N drop in filter B&B muffler K-27 7200 MSD ignition box heavy duty street clutch short shifter ss lines, hi-temp fluid, and street/track pads koni adjustable shocks at all 4 corners front strut bar 934 boost guage 930S wheel 930 floor mats RUF wheels (17X9s and 17X10) original fuch's included Of course I am going to advertise on Pelican... where else would you guys suggest? I don't see a lot of cars moving on the "930's I've seen today" thread so I'm just not sure if there is a perfect site to use or not. Any pricing/marketing suggestions are greatly apprecaited. very nice with all the extra goodies for hp! There are many RED cars on market right now, not exactly sure how that will impact price but might move a little slower. I have not seen any cars sell for over 40K unless they had something extra going for them...ie RUF BTR, less then 10K miles, Wayne Gretzky owned etc. etc. Cars in low 30K range sell...cars in hi 30K range stay on market. Proof of good maintenance and you up-grades should help a lot. One thing I have not seen but I think would sell a car would be for seller to have the car PPI'ed with leakdown and supply this documentation to buyers. Would cost under 1K but I know you would get that back on sale price. That is if your leakdown numbers are good and the workshop is a known and reparable Porsche shop. just my 2cents..... |

it is a nice looking car. having shopped 930s for seferal years and having just purchased one, i think $45k is very optimistic. i would think in the $35-$37 range if there are no PPI big hitters.

I think you car is great, wish I was in the market. Just a couple of pointers and maybe others can weigh in here. You are talking to bunch of guys who like performance and your car carries those visual cues however you are wanting to to also capitalize on the low miles. Many potential buyers wanting low miles want a car closer to stock.
Here is my point, when a guy sits in that seat (or reviews the pictures) seeing a tach turned vertical shouts out "I've been flogged! The pedal covers reinforce that impression. You strike me as a guy who really hasn't done this so return these to stock. |

It really depends on the buyer.
Original cars have more value to the purist - yours look good in the pictures - but the mods might not help. The guys looking for a car to "drive it" want the mods but might not have that kind of money... Need to find the right buyer with the money at hand. I'd say $30K. Good luck! |

I'd ball-park it in this market at $36-38K. Gotta comment on how tasteful and clean mods are...that is a very nice car.

I bought my 87 almost two years ago it had 47xxx miles Garretson intercooler,k27,borla exhaust, powerhaus headers, H 4`s and a 5 speed g50/50. I paid almost 33,000. The records were dismal but I had it looked over by two independent places before I purchased it. I would not ask anything less than 33,000 for you car as I think they are worth more than what I paid 2 years ago.Here`s a pic.

I figured ask 45k, take 35 to 38. then again, the service manager at foreign cars italia sold his 79 930 blk/blk with 50k miles, fresh paint, bone stock rebuild. nice stock clean car for 42k in this economy.

I've seen this car in person and it's VERY clean.
TT, I'm sad to hear you're selling since I never got my 930 up to Austin for a drive with you down Lime Creek or RR1431 or even the three sisters out past Kerrville ![]()

Turbo's have always been tough to sell but I think market is picking up for these. I think mid 30's is correct as well. I just recently purchased a low mileage, fully documented, original 79 930. I'd advertise on PCA, Rennlist and even ebay for the exposure.

The $30's.
A respected dealer might get upper $30's. If you a serous about selling, high $20's. Sold my 91 C2 turbo in the last recession with 50k, RUF 17's, RUF spoiler, RUF sways, cup suspension, Porsche Recaro 92-Turbo S leather seats with shells to match, extensive motor mods, Porsche/Andial/S2 intercooler re-core, cup clutch... The best I could do was $31k. Sold my 85 3.2 911 a couple of months ago. So. Cal one owner till I bought it, original paint, 110k miles, factory limited slip, factory sport seats, Red/Black, restored 7&9 Fuchs. Rebuilt stock suspension and $700 corner balance, chip, cat bypass, H4's... Could only get $14k Modifications scare a lot of buyers and it is tough to get value for them. To me they are a plus. Mine had over $50k in goodies and I had a hard time getting the same value as a stock car. Not an expert on pricing so take this with a grain of salt. |
