Just bought a 930

I'm the proud new owner of an '89 930 and couldn't be more excited. It's my first Porsche. I spent 6 months doing my homework, and during that time I've been lurking here.

I'm very excited by the collective wisdom. It's amazing.

I'm looking for guidance on wheels. The 16" BBS are what came with the car. I think my preference would be to go back to Fuchs.

I know the Fuchs are expensive but I figure the BBS are worth a decent buck, or maybe I should plan to keep them.

I'm 30 min. from Watkins Glen so it's safe to say the car will end up on the track but all I have in mind is Driver Ed and occasional very low level stuff at most.

I'm open to any guidance and wisdom on wheels, or anything else.

Thanks in advance.

Cam

Sweet looking car, buy the Fuchs and try to keep the BBS. Especially if your car may see track duty. I have an extra set and love it.

Welcome

Nice car. Beware the mod demons, for even I have been a victim.

Good looking car... by the height of it appears unmolested. What about miles, mods, picture of the engine?

It's unmolested

48k miles with receipts to back it up.

Totally stock, in and out. The shot of the engine is discolored but it's all I have at the moment.

Thanks much for the welcomes. I'm very glad to be here.

Welcome!
Nice color combo. I second the thought of keeping your BBS wheels for track duty.

Congrats and welcome. I think the BBS basketweaves look fantastic. Period correct. And the gold looks good on the red.

If you want a set of Fuchs, take your time. Lurk over on the parts for sale forum or over on Rennlist. Wait to find a good set at a good price. In the meantime, you might find you tastes change and you might want something else (like 17" or 18" wheels). Or, maybe the tire selection for 16" wheels will completely dry up in a year or two and you'll be glad you didn't get a set of wheels for which you can't find any rubber.

Have a great time at the Glen and in the Finger Lakes. Some gorgeous scenery there. I went to school in Ithaca and still miss the summers (if not the other 9 months of the year).

Sweet machine. The BBS wheels are period correct and a strong light wheel. Drawbacks would be cleaning and tire availability. While Fuchs are oe, there's a lot to be said for 18 inch wheels due to tire availability. Those 9 inch Fuchs on the white car are gorgeous but have you priced the 9x15s? Hoosier racing rubber is available, but beyond that its tough to find the right tires.

Enjoy.

Very clean. If you are interested in any engine mods email me. I just turned my 3.3 into a 3.6 twin. The 3.3 is fully built. I have lot's of parts. I was not able to salvage any parts, i have everything left. I still have not gotten my car back and all the parts remain at the shop. My email is epg@usa.com and phone is 310.433.5332 Mike Hakimi

Wheel size

I'm learning a lot and appreciate the input.

Availability of rubber surely concerns me.

There are Toyo 16" 245's and 205's on the car now.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
15's are getting hard to find tires for. Manufacturers are trending away.
16's getting there. Manufacturers are trending away.
17's & 18's are readily available and manufacturers are trending toward.

Do I have that about right?

Cam

Nice car! You've got a twin to mine - here's what yours would look like with RUFs (as well as with silver centered BBSs)....

I've had problems with the BBSs cracking on the inside rim so look at them carefully. Mine are a few years older and probably have a few more miles on them, but I've lost confidence in them because of the cracking (they've been repaired but.....), and now only use them for winter storage. Tire choices in 16" is very limited - I love the look of both my BBSs and RUFs, but tire selection for the 17" Rufs is waay better.

Much better! Thanks Clark/Turbo Tales. They look as good as I hoped on my car.

Now I think I'm going to have the BBS redone so they're all silver like Richard930's. Any suggestions on who/how?

Can't wait for spring.
