Thanks guys, did not had any idea why so much more people watched my thread until I saw the newsletter. Why Pelican choose my thread? No idea, as at this time there is no much effort visible. However, I will proceed tomorrow when I find some time. Today is Girlfriend time (like yesterday;) )

Happy Eastern time fellows:)

Thank you for the response. I may paint my 951 that color. I remember some old movie where the character was driving a 930, of similar color, across a snowy landscape, and have always wanted to know that color. I think yours is even better. Really amazing project!

Basquiat 04-05-2015 03:51 PM

By the way, when I looked up the code, the info I found named the color "Nebio Blue Metallic" as both a VW and Audi color. L5y and LL5y

Not much effort visible you say? Ha! To me it looks like an amazing amount of effort but its paying off nicely, I can't wait to see the finished car! Nicely done, and then some! Thanks for documenting the work it reads like a storybook!

Agreed in the massive effort on this project. Way beyond average excellence here.

Besides eating a lot of chocolate rabbits did not make much, only worked on some bolts on the lathe:

M10 A4-80 (replacing all 8.8 grade bolts with A4-80, I like the look of SS and save a couple of gramms here is a nice side-effect)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1428340725.jpg

For those who are interested in the weight saving: I did not weighted them at all, lighter is lighter;)

preston_brown 04-06-2015 12:30 PM

I did a bit of googling and I see A4-80 stainless steel bolts have pretty much the same characteristics as a 8.8 grade plated steel bolt. Are they more or less interchangeable or are there places you can't use the stainless ones?

Regarding strength etc... you can replace without any risk. There are two things to care about:

-Contact corrosion due the different displacement series (volt). Mainly on aluminum

-Risk of thread seizure and therefore lubing to get correct torque

Roland, Just spent many days when I could get a few spare minutes going through the entire thread. Great stuff and with your limited "operational" sizing just that much more impressive! I've subscribed and look forward to each newly lightened part that you have time to share. Going to be a real keeper when you are done.

Should you ever decide to sell it, you truly will have one of those sale ads that says "many modifications, too many to list"...

Thanks:)

One of the best ideas I've had. Beware of buying some cheap DIY store stuff. No fun then (and lot's of waste).

Back from my snowboard vacationSmileWavy

Made some more parts out of high strength aluminum:

Nut for fan M17x1.5, nut for heater switch M15x1.5, spacer for turbo bracket, oil line clamp with special inbus nut and POM spacers (kind of plastic):

Yes quiet here, but not in my life. Just be patient, there will be some update in a couple of weeks...
