Long time since, but...

Still nothing new worth to share. While still working on my insulation (not much motivation for that job, not the result;)) I am looking for other things I want to add maybe:

1st is the ER quick change bla bla X-Brace:

As I have already mounting points, I only would buy the cross, unfortunately only available with brackets etc... Because my points are not at same point, I have to cut away about 20mm at each end and recut threads inside. Does anybody has that brace installed? Wonder if there is enough beef inside for threads?


2nd I saw that Rothsport oil check valve. Makes sense, but is there really an advantage or just in case of leakages?

Is it free of play, no noises, rattling etc.? Other issues like poor clamping force?

I have an extinguisher, not that same mount, but the rattle is not from the mount it is from the handle (trigger) on the extinguisher itself.

I've got the elephant racing cross brace - very happy with it.

At the front it relies on screwing through to some substantial (3mm thick?) backing plates that go the other side of the body panel - in the inner wing. So it isn't screwed into the inner wing, it's effectively clamped to it and very strongly - the inner wing is sandwiched between the two elephant racing brackets.

I've no idea if you could cut 20mm off and re-thread it - you'd be better off asking Chuck at Elephant Racing. However if you do then you're also moving slightly the point at which the two struts join each other - don't know if that would cause a problem.

IMHO I would suggest if you fit it then fit what they supply in the way that they supply it

I know how the brace is mounted, no doubt it's fine. There are two reasons for me not to use the delivered brackets.
First, I have already mounting brackets welded in earlier (see pics fresh out of paint cabine), they will also conflict with the other ones.
Point of joint (ha what a nice term) will not be different, only angle, but there is no issue. BTW I asked Chuck already, just wanted to see, what others may think.
Second, I have a strut bar which I like very much and therefore I cannot use the rear brackets of the ER strut.
Originally, I wanted to make my own strut, but this would be quite big effort, because I like the Idea of the adjustable ends there to set a little strain.

I have to check in once in awhile , nice to see everyone else is busy in life but your car is totally to clean Roland . Keep up the slow steady progress it will finish itself one day ...

While still waiting for my X-Brace from Heigo (more later) I received some pieces. Rubber, seals etc. and a R-9530 Quick Release Fire Extinguisher Mount. Earlier I bought the SPA Extreme 1kg Novec 1230 extinguisher.

I bought the bigger one (90mm) version, because the bottle diameter is 80mm (small mount has 76.2mm / 3"). I used hard rubber to fill the gap. As I am not really happy, I ordered now the smaller one too, plan to machine the clamp to fit my extinguisher...

However, let me show some details I don't like (some of you might think I am an awkward guy, but that's what I am expecting in that price range.)

Handle anodized at the smaller one, clamping parts and centers not. Bigger one vice versa. on the raw parts machining quit visible (compared to the anodized parts which are satined)

A couple of weeks ago I decided to buy an x-brace for the trunk. First I checked the ER. Not bad, but not fitting out of box (I already have mounting brackets welded-in). Further I like it a bit more beafier there. So I asked Heigo, who made my cage too. They are one of the most expirienced regarding cage etc. here in Europe and an old Porsche near brand, still all made in Germany. I was really suprised, that an individual piece made according my measurements was only a couple of Euro more than the ER x-brace. Of course I had to wait for, but here it is, very nice piece:)

I have do drill the brackets to bolt down, made only M8 holes to have all options then.

As my hunger for weight loss never stops, I bought some lighter battery terminals too. Almost half the weight of the massive copper ones before. Also I like the look and the fact, that the cable can be crimped. This leads me to the problem I did not expect before: No one of the vehicle electricans seems to have this F-type crimping tool... Maybe I will be lucky once, otherwise I have to make my own crimping matrix.

I often thought about making a new wiring harness, even I did this about ten years ago already. Reason is mainly that I not used automotive wires then (which will not be a problem I guess) and much too thick wires, almost all are 2.5mm2 and more. Quite a lot of copper weight to save here. Further I want to make a new fuse box and relay holder.

Nice work as always Roland , good to see you have still had some steady progress through the winter . I'm back out of the brace after another surgery on my hand and at it again in the garage myself . May have a finished product for you in the near future , wish me luck.
