It's a heck of a motor by RUF. I still like the Yellowbird in the video.

Hmmm.....am really disappointed. Read another article on the V8 project in 911&PW mag, whilst on holiday. I love these type of projects, and the article certainly piqued my interest....
....but that sounded really REALLY bland. Sounded like some of the V8's being developed over here, that are essentially 2 x big 4-pot bike engines with a common crank....to me it just sounded like a 4-pot [runs for cover], but without the intake bark of something like a BDA/BDG, N/A YBB, Vauxhall XE, Ford Duratec, etc, etc...give me a thumping LSx, Hemi, etc lump any day. No doubt it's devastatingly fast, and a tour-de-force in engineering terms, but left me thoroughly cold...I'd have the 'Bird in a heartbeat. (No offense to anyone who's got one/about to order/desperately in lust....delete as appropriate)

Those "bike" v8's (even though some of them are now a long way removed from that original way of doing it) that we have over here powering hill climb/sprint cars, kitcars, etc, also sound "Meh". Don't know what it is, firing order or what, but whereas a flat-plane Ferrari V8 sounds nape tinglingly fantastic, and a 'Vette lump at full chat down the Mulsanne is just bonkers and more than a little scary, those "twin fours" are unexciting...all IMHO of course....and thats what the RUF V8 sounded like to me. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not a flat-earther who thinks that this shouldn't be done...love the concept, the packaging looks great....hell, the engine looks superb! ![]()

Amazing how the Bird still holds its own, awful sound on that V8, maybe they should inject some boost on it!

That Ruf flat 8 sounds wicked!
But, I like the yellerbird better as well. According to Hurley Haywood, porsche has been working on a flat 8 for some time. He felt strongly the new gt3 would end up with it( for rolex homog issues), perhaps in a 991 gt3rs4.5??

The Yellowbird will ALWAYS 'have it'
![]() Ruf continues to show what amazing things small companies led by men of vision and not ruled by committees and bean counters, can achieve. Ruf carries the flame long ago extinguished at Porsche. The RGT 8 is the kind of stuff Porsche used to do before they became just another car company. I get as much excitement from seeing the newest Ruf hardware as I do by all the cool 'vintage' porsche machinery that i first saw as a kid. Now if Ruf would just start racing....
