3.3 Turbo CIS to EFI-What else I need?
I know this have been treated before but as I keep reading more issues or ideas flow. The question is simple: what else I need?
This is what I have: 3.3 turbo engine(complete) Bitz Racing EFI kit with Megasquirt I ecu Accel 30# injectors (think I need bigger) 3.2 intake manifold MSD 6 BTM Car is a daily driver, just looking for more street power. Think that will be controlling just fuel delivery with the ecu and timing through the MSD with the stock(locked) distributor.. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks guys

sorry have no experience with the Megasquirt on a 3.3 turbo but have used it on other cars and worked great for way less $ then a motec system. best of luck!

Don't think you'll pick up that much more power with EFI doing fuel only. A lot of the power (torque) comes from fully programmable timing.

One thing you'll need is a set of intake adapters/spacers cuz the C2 intake runners have a larger bore then the 930 head's intake ports. Also, you'll need a different intercooler cuz the C2 intake manifold reverses your throttle body orientation. I have an extra C2 intercooler that will work if you want it just PM me. Additionally, I would also recommend high lift cams and a larger turbo in order to pump in more air/fuel in for even more HP...

Adding timing control is only a few hundred bucks more. In my opinion it's not an option, you must do it. In fact I sold my stock dizzy for more than the EDIS components cost me....

If you're crafty and don't wanna spend alot of $ you can get more midrange torque from the stock distributor for free...
Bend the centrifical advance weight stops inward around 1/8" or more to limit total centrifical advance, drill holes in the centrifical advance weights to lighten them a little so they start advancing a little later, and then advance static timing from 0 to around 8to 12 degrees before top dead center. After that total centrifical advance can be same as stock or wherever you want it so you don't blow up the motor under boost, but idle, off idle, and midrange advance is around 10 degrees or more advanced so more torque is immediately available and enjoyable. Screw emissions and catalytic converters if you can and do this. It's all free with your own creative labor. Simple and it works great. |

when i bought my car, it had EDIS 6 ignition with megasquirt. couldn't get it run at all and ended up changing it to motec with individual coil packs from audi.
probably not a reflection on megasquirt as much a reflection on my inability to tune it properly!

Really easy to let MS deal with timing even keeping the distributor and I believe timing control is really important to driveability and off boost throttle response.
30# are pretty small. My car is very different, but I have just changed up from 55 to 80# to reduce my injector duty time. 2 cents, Dave |

A few thoughts.
A Bitz Racing kit is designed to convert NA CIS cars to EFI. While it is a very developed kit (I have installed a few) it is not quite right for your 930 conversion. here is my modified list based on yours. -MS2 ECU (The MS1 will work but you will want higher resolution that MS2-Extra Code can provide) -MS-EFI harness from DIY Autotune. Easy, color coded and labeled wiring. -3.2 manifold including fuel rails, throttle body and linkage. Yes, the linkage is different. Much needed. Injectors will fit right into the stock manifold and rails. No need to buy the bitz kit and pay double for fuel rails and also pay for the bung adapters. MSD fuel pressure regulator WideBand O2 sensor Intercooler that fits 3.2 manifold some type of fuse block for the wiring -VArious wiring connectors (WEatherPack, Deutche, etc) to disconnect engine harness when needed). -30# injectors should support about 300Hp. A stock 930 does not put out more than this. If you upgraded the turbo, intercooler, wastegate and boost control you will probably make more and need larger injectors. I like to run the smallest injectors that will not run out of duty cycle as they are easier to tune at low-rpm/low load conditions. Yes, you might as well integrate ignition. Put the money from the MSD into the ignition. If adding ignition there are several options. 1. EDIS - simple reliable - has specific wiring. Crank pulley with 36-1 toothed wheel EDIS adapter clamp for VR sensor stock Ford VR sensor EDIS-6 controller EDIS-6 coil pack Custom plug wires 2. Least expensive method - requires distributor disassembly and work. Pull existing distributor lock down advance use existing magnetic trigger to send timing reference signal to MS-ECU Send output signal to ignition box (Can use early 3-pin Bosch or MSD or Crane) Enjoy controllable timing.

From your suggestions and others I'm redirecting my efforts. First off, I'm selling my 3.0 BITZ Racing EFI kit. Since I already have the 3.2 intake and fuel rails I just need the injectors for the 3.3T. I think that 50# will be enough for what I want. What you think? Intercooler will be custom made so the cost is the same for any system. About timing I'm thinking also to sell the MSD BTM and go the complete route with crank and cam sensors and EDIS or direct coil system. Anyway the later can be worked after the fuel system is on and set. Thanks for yours and others comments. We are all learning. Ivan

balleta- just FYI if you use EDIS you won't need a cam sensor just the crank. You may want to consider that

So, if no cam sensors are needed then maybe I'll have an ignition to sell also.

balleta,
I understand you are doing a custom IC, you may want to talk to Chris at Turbokraft. He has a very nice set up for a 3.2 intake that is full bay and IIRC it allowed for a compressor. I stopped by his shop at one point and it was very well done and very well thought out. Not cheap, but neither is custom. Good luck on the conversion. JPNovak has worked out a lot of the painful issues on the conversion for my car and is quite knowledgable and has a firm grasp of the conversion. He had the MS system working in my car before an unrelated issue came up and it worked fine. It is considerably cheaper than Motronic. I may have an extra throttle linkage, for a 3.2 intake conversion, btw.

Keep the dizzy as these things are going to get harder and harder to find. Save it for the next guy.

The more I read the more questions. There are some people and even manufacturers that put on a sensor into the dizzy. For example, a cam sensor would be not too difficult to adapt. Is there something like that for our cars?

Why not get all the benefits out of ignition? Throw that dizzy away (or at least leave it on the shelf) and get full programmable ignition as for example SDS offers?

Also to consider while you are in there is updating fuel system and go to MS 3 and tune also for E-85 just a thought
