Speaking of WUR configuration, I've been spending the day with lots of little allen wrenches, WUR disk tools, and patience getting my AFRs dialed in.
As you might recall from yesterday, I was having an issue where from idle up until boost enrichment hit (4500 RPM at the time), I was running lean, at about 13.5 to 1. At the point boost enrichment hit, AFRs were pegging the gauge at 10.0. It was so rich, the motor would stumble and miss a tiny bit. I got that low RPM condition dialed in by adjusting the warm pressure to the point where I'm now seeing AFRs around 11.8 at idle to 12.2 when the boost enrichment hits. As advised, I continued to adjust the boost delay solenoid up the rev range until I found the point where it seemed to be crossing over. The AFRs started running back into the high 12s right around 5500 RPM, so I put a 5500 RPM pill into the delay solenoid. At 5500 RPM, the fuel does a full dump and even at 5500 RPM, my AFRs dip down to 10, but I figure that's a reasonable compromise at this point to ensure longevity and reliability. The car doesn't seem to stumble from all of that fuel at high RPM. I haven't had any luck trying to get the fuel enrichment dump leaner than low tens, and am wondering if it is even worth the effort. I AM a bit surprised I have so much fuel in reserve at the top of the rev range. Would love some feedback on my observations and this config. As a side note, some advice: WOT power pulls in 2nd gear, even on an empty freeway when it's raining, when in second gear at 70 miles per hour, is not smart. What's your cruise AFR now? Are your eyes watering at idle with it that rich?
The bigger question is how fast is it now with the new turbo compared to the old..... |

Regarding the turbo, it is definitely more progressive, and it gives more shove earlier in the rev range. It doesn't go insane like the old turbo, which was kind of like a light switch. In terms of top-end power it seems to be on par with the 7006, which is excellent for a 7200 based turbo. I am a little bit surprised that I have that much fuel in reserve though. I was expecting more top-end power than I'm getting. Will have to talk to the turbo builder to see if my expectations were too optimistic. I wouldn't make the correlation that having more fuel than needed means you are leaving power on the table. You dug into your timing maps?

I don't think I'm moving backwards. This sucker gives up nothing on top to the 7006. Builder estimates 25HP peak over the 7006. It just doesn't FEEL as fast.
Regarding fuel: air volume + fuel volume at a given AFR means more makes more. If I can't get enough air into the motor to consume that extra fuel, it tells me the turbo is leaving something on the table. I guess if I went to 1 BAR I could research the topic further. I don't want to boost higher than .9 running CIS, given my static compression measure. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |

After putting a few miles on the car on some dry roads, I'm taking some of my previous comments back. This car is Fast AF.
The turbo hit isn't as violent as previous, but it just accelerates everywhere faster. Case in point: 2nd gear on a dry freeway at about 60 MPH, holding about 5000 RPM, then flat footing the accelerator broke the rear tires loose. 245 Bridgestone RE-11s! I'm convinced that once I get the AFRs a touch leaner low (currently high 11s) and a LOT leaner on top(currently sub 10), this car is going to make silly power. It's already sillier than it was prior. What I can't figure out is why there's so much fuel. I'm pig rich at 7000 RPM! I might just have to try a .9 BAR spring next.
