My New 1979 930 - yes, another introduction...
I've been around here a looong time, but finally decided I needed to fulfill the dream, take the 930 plunge or forever regret it. The car had been hiding in the back of the shop of a local mechanic for quite a few years. He finally decided it was time to part with it, to pursue other projects and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
The car has seen better days, but is a good fit for the skills I bring to the table. The worst part of the car is the paint and body, which was (poorly) reshot in black over the (as yet undetermined) original color. One thing is certain, this car was sold in a color NOT on the factory option list. Here are the pics today, of the car getting towed to its new home. While the car runs, the 3LDZ has been puking oil into the driver's side heat exchanger. I wasn't a fan of the idea of throwing up a James Bond scale smoke cloud on the drive home. One of these days I'll post some pics of the car next to its three siblings, the '66, the '69S and the '80 targa. It is in good company. :) Without further ado... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._41_03_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._40_34_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._41_14_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._41_22_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._51_11_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._51_18_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._51_37_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._53_08_Pro.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7..._00_38_Pro.jpg |

^ Ummmmmm...I wish! Mine is the scruffy, down on his luck twin brother, at best. :D
|
I do know my way around photoshop mind you.
You will have to sell me those wheels for super cheap. I cant have my scruffy twin slinking around town. :) Congrats again. Nice to have another local 930. |
Nice! But what the heck are those two huge humps on the rear bumper?!?! ;)
|
Oooooh another Seattle car! Any interest in trading for a '87 3.2 cab?
Looking forward to the build thread |
If it doesn't have them already, your 69 S will be wanting those H1s! Nice car!
|
^ I sold my last set from the 69S years ago. I had considered it...
If so, H5s or sugar scoops? I have both. |
Very nice!
Congrats. 3ldz you say, yet I see an aftermarket drip tank. |
^ indeed. Peculiar. Assumed a 3LDZ, but hard to tell on the car. Will know tomorrow.

10 mins from Laguna Seca? You live on Laureles Grade, in Toro Park, Del Rey Oaks or over by York? You pretty much need to be right off 68...

Between toro park and laurels grade off 68 to the south. Where are you located? |
Seattle. Monterey High class of 92. :)

Congrats...'79 is the best year, but then I am biased. |
Yes, very pleased to not have to deal with the thermal reactor exhaust.
|
Congrats Kenikh. Any idea on the original color? What's the trim tag say? Where does the VIN place it in the production year?

We'll know eventually...I asked the COA folks to send me the paint code once they have the info pulled up, as opposed to waiting for the hard copy. The interior is currently a black interior pulled from a 3.2 Carrera: power, non-sport seats. Original was sort of tan interior. Again COA will tell. I have correct mid year sport seats that will be going in this car very shortly. |
