I am concerned about RF coming from them, they are low resistance wires, only about 360 ohms per foot.

Really hope I dont have to rebuild the wires.

Just run EMI susceptible wires perpindicular to the plug wires and it should be fine if properly shielded one end only.

It runs with no problem? You can communicate with the ECU from a laptop, but you just can't connect to it when running?

same thing, still kicks you right out if you try to communicate with it running.

IMR,
My Tec3r is about 14 years old. I run it with an old Acer laptop that has only a USB slot so I also have this Belkin USB to Serial converter.

I am no tecky, but I remember that the Tec3r will only run on local port 4 when the motor is running. Cannot remember how I got into changing the local ports-maybe somebody more teck savy can chime in if you think that this may be your problem.
With respect to the wires, my wires running from the Tec3r to the DFU's are all quite thick, probably 14-16 gauge.

I know that we all knock the Tec3r and quite honestly there was a time when I almost ripped it out when my mechanic at the time washed his hands off the system. That required me diving in without much help and I'm glad that I did. The results spoke for themselves both in daily driveability and track use.
Stick with it.
Hope this helps.
Johan

My buddy has the Belkin adapter, but can't get a driver for the new OS that are out. I just got a good XP disc and I am reloading it on my old laptop now. hope to have it up an running this afternoon. We are getting communication and the GUI (dashboard for management) comes up, but goes haywire when the car is started.

The car is running good right now at low level driving, idles good, good drivability, but going to the dyno in a few weeks so need to get the EMI noise figured out.

You posted before I did. That will work fine. Drivers are out there, but make sure all your Windows updates are done.

I wonder if starting windows up in safe mode before interfacing with the Tec3 would work.
Way fewer windows programs are running in the background when you do that. With XP you repeatedly tap F8 while the computer is booting up to do that.

I bought a usb to serial port adapter off ebay for less than $3 shipped. No wire on it just male usb on one end and the serial port on the other. Shipping was free and it was in California so I didn't have to wait 3 weeks for it to ship from China.

edit: a quick google search just found the same usb to serial adapter I have.
I got it so I could log AFR's with my innovate AFR gauge.

I just got XP loaded in the laptop, now to transfer WinTec over to it. Which might be an issue. Bad network card (why I retired it 10 years ago). LOL

Just did the happy dance in the garage. Full communication with car running and complete access to the BIN file.

Old laptop with XP and serial cable.

Thanks everyone.
