What a highly modified 930 can actually accomplish
Hi Guys,
Many moons ago, I discussed the types of mods that my buddies car has and the results with the way the car now runs. Ed's car has a Kevlar clutch and aluminum pressure plate coupled to an engine built to the following specs: 3.5 litre P&C with wider spigots to accomodate (7.5:1) GT3 Oil Pump and Additional Oil Coolng MOCAL Evo GT2 Cams Carillo Rods H20 Inj EFI w/3.2 manifold PORT AND POLISH to flow match expanded head ports SDS system Heads ported to support and TWIN PLUG TIAL Wastegate GARRETT 3586 GHL HEADERS Full Bay Intercooler The video below is the fruits of the labor, and is a good comparison as we chased down a 918 Spyder on the track. https://youtu.be/9fF8tzlqaB8 Any body have something similar and an approximate HP estimate on this build as we have not had it dynoed.

The max the turbo puts out hp wise is your hp limit.
Being he's running 1.5 bar, that Garrett is maxed at the ~650hp unless he's running E85 and/or methanol injection. That turbo is too small for his build. GT40 or bigger would wake it up big time! |

That 7.5:1 is killing the response. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

I don't see anything unexpected here. Thanks for helping destroy the dream though.

With the modification level so far there is basically no difference whether it is 930, 964 or 993.
So far no one in the Porsche world has surpassed Eddie Bello's 1300 soemthing rwhp and the real life performance of his car. Well, perhaps the 917/30 did but we are talking about real life here ![]()

Point is, it's a 3.5 with big flowing parts. That engine can support a monster single turbo, or possibly 2 GT28's. Hell, I spool a BW S366 easily (I'm 3.4, stock Carrera 3.2 heads, cams, and intake). Without an intercooler, I was hitting I believe over 1.6 bar with a G50 in 1st gear. My S366 would make big power on his, it's capable os supporting 830hp. Happy medium would be the S364 capable of 800hp for less than $750. Of course this would require miss to fit. I'd look at GT40/42's if sticking with ball bearing. you might have been chasing but I don't think that 918 was really running.
it would be like me taking my 930 to a track. I may (try) to run hard every now and then but the car would be driven below its capabilities. for one, I don't want to wreck it. last half of the video the 918 really left the 930 behind coming out of the corners. great sounding 930, still liked the vid.

I thought the driver wasn't using all the right gears at the right time, either. I really think this video is rare for a reason.

a stock 918 runs the 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds, and does a sub 7 min nurburgring time. It looks like it is running away from the 930 and being paced by the ferrari ahead, even though it is clearly not being driven on the optimum line.
2 cool cars but I think the video confirms just how stupid fast the 918 is

Watching a video of the 918 going down the 1/4 mile left me in awe. That thing is rocket fast.
It ran 9.80's IIRC. |

We've maxed out the GT3582R at ~620rwhp on a 3.4L running e85. Did over 550whp on 91-octane.
GT3586 -- you're running a different compressor wheel on it, could get a little better... only the GHL headers will choke it. GT40R could be better if you had twin scroll T04 headers.

The 930 certainly is modified, however track performance -wise looks it is performing appallingly. At that pace, a minor modifications race class N/A 944 would leave both cars standing. It is challenging to make a fast turbo -track car, with this kind of power it would require a lot from boost spool, suspension, tires, brakes, also driver, to make it work.
Perhaps one would also swap large offset wheels to Fuchs, or perhaps some BBS period split rims, but that is just cosmetic. Thanks for sharing video anyway, it is very nice when someone does it.

Yeah, it's tough to keep power steady in a turbo car/930, but I had no problem slaying new Shelby Mustang's with superchargers in the 600-700hp range.
If you can do the same in a 951, that's impressive. |
