Horns
Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend!
We are having gorgeous weather, 65°F and sunny so I drove to the shop so we could chase down a presumed electrical issue and plan an attack on changing out all the OEM oil lines in the car. She runs very very well now so time to address more of the restoration items. Anyway that's not what this post is about. While driving to the shop I was cut off very badly by a blatantly rude person using no turn signals who just about took off my front end. It was done deliberately. My knee jerk recourse was to hit the horn. And this anemic goofy joke of a "toot" came out. Are you freaking kidding me? I never use the horns on these cars and forgot how stupid they sound. I need a HORN. What do you guys suggest? What type of horn will plug and play that has some BALLS? ... and a picture of the car safely reaching the shop, cause everybody likes pictures. ![]()

I put in a pair of Hella Supertones. They aren't exactly a locomotive horn, but they're better than stock and have the advantage of being small and allowing room for an oil cooler fan.

There is now an element of our population who purposely act out and then dare you to do something about it. A horn is all you got and that may get you in trouble, let alone anything more provocative. Anyway I need a real horn, will check out what Hella has to offer. Wouldn't mind an air horn or something REALLY loud like my SUV has.

An ass zork, you may be on to something there!
Maybe mount twin 50 caliber fighter guns in the trunk shooting out of the pop-up lights, THAT would do the trick, ha!

OK checked out the Hella Supertone, sounds great! The contrast between stock modern BMW and the Supertone was significant. The sound is also Porsche-esque in it's high piercing note.
I know nothing about aftermarket horns, is this plug and play? Can I assume the stock horn wire size will support these 2 horns? Stupid questions but I've learned to never assume anything. Thanks! ![]()

Yes, these horns fit well with our cars and the sound best fits our German sleds. These are what I run in my slant as well. Wiring is fine. Only thing I did was wire it with two aftermarket Bosch relays. If you wanted factory wiring with stock relays, it will work fine.

I'm trying to buy USA but it looks like most of these come from India?
Who is best to buy from to assure it is authentic and from the US?

My car came with a pair of those goofy red hella things and I hated the wimpy sound of them so I sold them.
Bought a pair of generic horns at Harbor Freight for around $10 and they sound louder like 1970's American car horns. Best ones are probably on old American cars in junk yards.. |

If these don't work I'll get the horn that is in my TrailBlazer SS. Had an idiot texting in front of me a couple weeks ago slowing down in rush hour traffic. I got right on her ass and laid on that horn, looked like she pissed herself. Dropped the phone and jerked the car to the left. That horn is LOUD.

I think I remember a thread on Rennlist in the 996 section about horns.

Additionally, these are what I run on all my old cars. Bit more to wire/mount but they are overkill loud. https://www.amazon.com/HELLA-003001601-2-Trumpet-12V-Horn/dp/B00DRZ5XDY/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1480351557&sr=1-8&keywords=hella+horn Similar to Ferrari in tone.
