				what tranny

I have a 3.5 l turbo EFI with a short bell housing 4speed turbo tranny in my car right now. Was thinking about swapping over to a 5 speed tranny, I know most of them work with hydraulic clutch. What tranny and what is the going rate to do the conversion. If I do this I do have a nice short bellhousing 4 speed turbo tranny I would sell. Thanks John

You're wanting a G50/00, 01, 02. You'd need the G50 pedal cluster I assume with the clutch master cylinder? Then the clutch slave cylinder and hose. Beware the clutch master cylinder feeds from the brake master cylinder reservoir. Chris as Turbo Kraft has a good Sachs clutch I believe for the G50 that's supposed to hold a lot of power and has an easy pedal. I'm using a KEP Stg II pressure plate ($750) and Kevlar disc (California Clutch - $250) that's supposed to hold up to 650ft/lbs. But, my pedal is pretty tough. Sucks in stop and go.

Beware too, the G50 weighs I believe 30 to 40 more pounds. Also too, you may want a Patrick Motorsports billet diff cover. The G50 series of 00/01/02 have thin cast diff covers that can deflect under high torque which allows the ring gear to move away from the pinion gear resulting in metal gear soup. I've never busted mine nor seen any signs of deflection, but apparently it has happened.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I am in the process of putting a new clutch in my car and was thinking of next future project to change the trans to a 5 speed. I have the short bellhousing now and see they are worth some money. If I could off set the price of the conversion with selling my trans, I would think about it in the future. By the way Tippy everything is wonderful lol.

These G50's are getting hard to find and pricey, CMS Rebuilt G50/01 SBH w/LSD+Billet diff cover - $11,500 There was a bone stock one that was $7,500 not to long ago, but it will also need the bell housing shortened (more $) to fit in your car. The pedal assy. seems to be over 500.00 if you can find one, so maybe more. I would guess you 930 box is about $5,000 so yeah, you would at best be maybe half way there by selling you trans. | ||
