rebuilding drbrian's 3.2l engine

im not sure if any of you followed the auction where drbrian bought my 1988 carrera but he has asked me to rebuild the engine so i though that i would document everything here. i should have the engine out and disassembled this weekend to get the parts over to the machine shop monday morning.

It has been a true pleasure working with Chris. He is a one man specialty shop producing fantastic restomods, and his enthusiasm is obvious. The 88 Carrera is just a hint of his creativity. And with the engine upgrades, she will see some great backroads use in California.

so i got the motor out and apart yesterday. after running some errands and getting a late start sunday i was exhausted and did not post yesterday. here are a couple of pics of taking the engine apart.

the shop is crowded right now because i had not planned on pulling this engine and have other cars in various stages of restoration, so excuse the mess!

I must have missed it but that engine looks pretty clean and fresh as is. What was the reason for pulling it all apart to rebuild? Taking it to 3.4?

i was selling the car and redid the paint, interior, suspension and only resealed the engine because it ran so good. brian bought it and wanted the engine rebuilt so that everything was new.

you can search for the auction under my screen name on BaT to read what happened in greater detail.

i wanted to give a huge thank you to the man Steven Stomski! i bought, and paid for, every tool he makes and two of some of them like his billet crank stand, so know that this complement is real! i will never get tired of hearing case halves POP as they split with his case splitter!!!!

THANK YOU STEVEN!

Is this build being done in California? If so, what machine shops are you using?

Thanks,

Rahl

so after waiting 3 weeks for the IMS thrust bearings to show up from germany and contending with the covid/holiday shipping for the crank, oil pump and cams we are finally gearing up to start Dr. Brian's engine assembly.
