Oh, and Island - we used to use AutoCAD to design and build miltary communications satellites at Hughes Space and Communications. The latest parametric versions easily rival ProE and CADDS 5. I was chair of the committee (for a while) to integrate AutoDesk's Mechanical Desktop as a lower-cost platform for 3D modelling of electronic units.

It's funny, without all the name calling and chest pounding, this thread would have been a lot shorter. Something along the lines of...
1) Does anyone know the technical specifics for installing case squirters? 2) No, but it can be risky to the novice. 3) Who might? 4) Check with Walt, etc... 5) What machine and or approach would you use? 6) Bridgeport (not a hand drill), 2 axis, 6 axis, etc. 7) Don't forget the ecomonics of the make vs. buy decision. It would also be neat to ensure future supply of the skill. 8) Great! I'll post what I learn since I seem to be going into unknown territory for this BBS. (Note; the frontiers of this BBS's knowlege are pushed forward a little more! ![]() BTW - I think that this is about the shortest post that I've ever submitted. You guys always pull the best from me!

Well, this thread has sure been all over the map and I am just trying to get information on installing Squirters.
I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on CAD systems since I have been a user since '88 and selling them since '96 including full 5-axis CAM systems. Anyone know what primary 3D CAD system Porsche uses? Ferrari? Daimler Chrysler, VW, Audi, Peugeot, Mitsubushi, Fiat, Hundai?? How about Lockheed Martin on the F22 & Joint Strike fighter? Boeing, Cessna, Raytheon, Gulf Stream, Sikorski, Bell Helicopter? They all use the same system!! I'll give you a hint: It's not Autocad, Mechanical Desk top, or Inventor. It's not Pro E, Unigraphics, Solid Works, Solid Edge, Think 3, Cad Key, Visio or CADDS 5 (note I said "Primary 3D CAD system" as all of these co's are what I call multi-CAD). I'll mail a free Join Strike Fighter T-shirt to the first correct answer. JB |

Yeah, it would be Catia. You can add Honda to the list too.
Definitely the choice for world class engineering integration. Though a whole lot of what those Catia systems are fed comes from Pro/E & Solidworks.

Islands also right. I can vouch for the fact that Catia systems are being fed from Pro/E. oops forgot the Porsche content....I just had some case work done on my 3.3L case. I had the squirters removed so I could install the larger 964 squirters. He said (Paul from Cyntex) there be should a slight interference fit. If it did'nt he could get larger dia squirters.... FYI.

In response to the Pro-E comment; yes, many companies use multiple systems depending on compliancy issues, legacy data, economic considerations, capability and user preference. I can guarentee you that Porsche does not "feed" CATIA data from Pro-E. There are immense benefits to be gained from staying with an integrated software tool but that is a whole new discussion not appropriate for this forum. Again, any new info on squirters is greatly appreciated! JB |

Yeh for a mechancial engineer maybe. But for the more trival mechanical problems that an EE does its ACAD because you can't find any design drafters that can use anything else. For the EE (and thats microwave and RF)stuff I own my own copy of ADS (Formally HP series IV). In any case mechanical desktop is good nuff for the squirter problem.

i would just try to find a later case with factory squirters from Porsche, I think every case after the 2.2 had them, they are like
50 bucks on ebay, then spec it. |
