Piston squirters and Nicksil question

In a 2.0L 67 S. Can I run a Nicksil barrel as I'm going to an 81mm JE.
I do not have piston squirters nor will I as I'm in Australia and no-one is competent in doing it.

cylinders

Use an 84mm biral cylinder from a 2.2-2.4.Bore to 85mm and make a true 2.3 Litre.Nicasil of course.Fred

You should be ok without squirters. 2.2S’s didn’t get squirters until 71.

I'm far from an expert but I thought the reason for the factory's switch to squirters was the move to all-alum p/c's?

I have a type 4 914 2.0 overbored to 2.6 with nickies/JE and 180HP, all I have is groves cut into the rods for "poor mans squirters". I do have an oversized oil pump to give me a boost in flow.

911R had ALU cylinders with chromal coating, no squirters. Normal production all ALU cylinders didn’t arrive till 73 2.7RS.

The reason for squirters was to control piston temperatures.

Was this to allow for smaller piston to cylinder clearance? and reduce noise from piston slap?

as displacement increases, the pistons get bigger and with more power there will be more heat to get out of the engine

the center of the piston crown will be the hottest part of the piston because its the farthest from the rings

heat is absorbed from the combustion gases to the piston crown, the heat will flow to the rings and into the cylinder wall

heat will also flow from the piston to the gudgeon pin to the rod then down to the crank

the oil squirters spray oil onto the bottom side of the piston crown to keep the piston from getting too hot

Piston squirters allowed them to run thinner rings, improving sealing and reducing friction. The ring doesn’t have to conduct as much heat away from the piston crown to the cylinder so they were able to reduce the ring width of the 2nd ring to 1.5mm from 2mm.

That makes sense, Though the introduction of piston squirters did coincide with the first use of nikasil they weren't exclusive to it, So what you are saying is you don't need squirters is you have the thicker rings?
