Converting SC motor to a 3.0 930 motor

Has anyone done this? There seems to be quite a few common parts. Any ideas?

Depending on what turbo you run the compression ratio may be too high.
The nice part is the SC cams work nice with most turbos.

could you just substitute the 930 exhaust and intercooler on top of the existing CIS and just make it a very low boost car. I already have 8.5:1 pistons so I'm sure it could take up to at least .8 bar on the good stuff.

Sounds good to me. You can also regrind the SC cams to 964 specs, this will reduce the cylinder pressure a little and help with the 8.5-1 C/R.

that's the base engine in my 77 930. case crank and rods from a '79 SC, and 930 P+Cs, heads, intake and exhaust. i didn't have a early 930/carerra aluminum case at the time, but i had all the other stuff.

so basically everything that I would replace on a rebuild anyway plus an early 930 exhaust. Are the heads that I have good or do they need to be a special 930 part?

Are you running an intercooler?

I was somewhat interested in replacing the CIS as well. Is there any clean way to do this and turbo as well?

BTW - John, I think this car used to be maintained by your shop. I bought it from a guy in Rainier about 3 months ago. I have all the records from purchase on. It has been in the seattle/olympia/tacoma area its whole life until now.

Richard Fong makes a turbo kit for the 3.0L SC engine. That might be the best way to go.
