rering 964
1992 C2 tiptronic with 16500 miles had low compression and significant blowby on valves due to valve guide wear. Disassembled entire engine for the fun of it. Heads done by Ted Robinson. Cams by Elgin. Crank is perfect. Cylinders still show hone marks, pistons show slight discoloration on skirts. Should I hone and rering or just put it back together?

What caused the valve guide wear in such a short time?

Don't hone it. Just clean it with some Scotch Brite and soapy water.
Henry shared the results of his experiments in thread: do I need to hone this? -Chris

The 3.6 engines have valve guide wear problems. I would definitely inspect and replace the rings if they are out of spec.
