Novice questions...
Firstly. How do I find out which Distibutor rotor is the correct one for my engine? It's a 1977 Carrera 3.0. Apparently there are several different 'cut off rpm' types. 6900rpm, 7000rpm, 7200rpm etc.
Secondly. Is it possible to replace the seal which is situated just behind the pulley on the engine (main bearing number1?) without dismantling the entire engine. (Sorry about my discription...you can tell I haven't done this before!). It appears to be the source of a leak. Thirdly. How do you remove said pulley off the engine? Is it difficult? Cheers M |

The "pulley seal" as it's called is inside the #8 bearing. Often there is a leak between the outside of the #8 bearing and the case. That seal (an O-ring) can't be replaced without splitting the case but you may have some luck sealing it.

OK. Wrong decription on my part! I was talking about the 'front crankcase oil seal' (pulley end). Just read the Bentley Bible and on page 130-2 it says you can replace this. Need some special tools and luck getting the pulley off but it can apparently be done without splitting the engine. Give it a go!
Can anyone help me on the Distributor Rotor type? Thanks M |

![]() Just be aware that oil in that area can come from 2 places. I'd clean the area thoroughly and run it a bit before you take things apart so you can see where the leaks are. -Chris

Many thanks everyone for your input. One 7000rpm rotor on order. Pics of my car will be arriving soon. I've also got your book on order Wayne...think I'm going to need it the further down this rebuild road I go!
