Installing ARP head studs
When installing ARP head studs should I bottom them out in the case or adjust to 135 mm height to the top of the threaded portion ? I ask because it appears height is less important with the 12 point nut but just wondering if inserting to bottom of the case thread is preferred.

The reason for the 135mm height is for use with the barrel nuts. With ARP or any of the premium studs you don't have to worry.

But I would bottom out in the case... be sure you run a tap in there first to clean up the threads.

Rounded end up. Seems simple but I screwed it up at first. I learned from a loctite rep that loctite should be put in a blind hole not on the stud. If not the air in the hole prevents it from going into the hole.

I will bottom them out...also an interesting thought regarding putting the Loctite in the case hole.

With our studs we use blue Loctite and run the stud all the way to the bottom. Then back it out a 1/4 turn. This takes unnecessary loan off the threads. The aluminum / magnesium will expand at a different rate than the stud material and we don't want the stud to damage the threads during that expansion.
This is specially true with mag case engines even when CaseSavers have been installed.

make sure you dont use the wrong tap if you want to use one. I used a tap that started removing more material from the thread in the case. horrible. I think a better thing to do would be to use an old head stud to run in and out a few times with some sort of solvent and lots of air, rather than a tap.

Thats what I did, old stud with lots of oil to lubricate the threads so as not to cause any damage then rinse out the oil with some solvent to ensure the new locktite sticks, the new studs screwed in by hand.

Yes, don't use a standard tap. I also removed more than I liked. Do what 911T did as mentioned above.
