Just picked up parts to build a 2.6 engine
Hello eveyone, (edited)
I just picked up a lump sum of 10+ year old parts sitting in a rotting shed, and heres the parts: 73 E heads, 32mm intake, 33 exhaust 73 case 73 distributor 73 911 E case, crank and rods. RSR 92mm Mahle pistons and cylinders Later factory race cams (4 bearing surfaces) with a 908 grind, part # 911.105.137/138. 0R 911E Bosche MFI system Besides the obvious shuffle pinning and oil bypass upgrades, what else should I do? I would like to make it a streetable engine for my 914-6gt replica. Bigger heads... how big? Will the E MFI system work ok? Cheers, Don.

A 73 E has a 70.4 mm crank. That mated to a set of 92mm pistons and cylinders is a 2.8 not a 2.6.
The 908 was an 8 cylinder engine which means the cams had 4 sets of lobes. Plus 908s had twin cams, hard cam to use in a 911. We may have a ID problem here. http://www.earthflix.com/stories/908_3.php ![]()

The engine pictured is a type 771. That is a derivative of the grand prix engine which was also used in a couple 904s, the 910,909,and 907. The type 908 engine was like a 911 engine with 2 extra cylinders and a vertical fan. The firing order made alot more vibration until they changed it in the second season with the complicated exhaust for the 180 degree crankshaft.
