Where can I send my Flywheel for Re-Surfacing? I'm in Northern Calif.

Hello everyone,

I'd like some one reputable to resurface my 84 Carrera Flywheel, any recommendations and cost estimates for this kind of work? Oh, can anyone recommend a shop to ulatrasonically clean out my oil tank as well?

Thanks!

Alex

I actually have the same question, but I'm on the other side of the country in Massachusetts. Can flywheel resurfacing be done by any reputable engine rebuilding shop?

Thanks.

Geoff,

Excellent question, there are two shops here in Hollister where I live but I would prefer to take it to someone that has done Porsche work already.

Good Luck,

Alex

we've taken a few to a place in Moutain View, it's on Old Middlefield Rd. and Ted at German Precision may be set up to do the oil tank. I don't know the proper way(s) to clean this he has a big citrus cleaner with ultrasonic system. The flywheel guy took off about 0.005" on the two surfaces.

I can't remember name of the flywheel guy...I can try to dig it up if you PM me henry.coles@hp.com

The place on Old Middlefield in Mountain View is called "Ellsworth's".

edit: it's at 2415 Old Middlefield Way, the number is 650.968.7884

I've had pre-87 911 flywheels done at a local machine shop. Nothing special about them. I just just give them a copy of the spec book page or a page from the factory manual so they know what the spec is.

chris - I thought I read somewhere that Porsche flywheels needed to be resurface a special way (may ground done) as opposed to turned on a lath or something like that... ??
