How to remove fuel injector nozzle?
I'm rebuilding the engine of my '82SC. While I'm waiting for parts back from machining, I'm rebuilding CIS fuel intake system. I've got it all apart and I'm going thru everything cleaning and bead blasting it back to a respectible condition. I'd like to remove the injector nozzles from the intake pipe, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
The part circled is what I want to remove. Any help? Thanks. Geoff ![]()

Hello Geoff,
It just pulls out. You may need to use a lever to help. Sometimes when pulling CIS injectors, the sleeve will come out with the injector, destroying the sleeve. Porsche made a poor choice of retaining the injector sleeves with stakes, rather than threads like the other OEMs. The purpose of the sleeves is to isolate the injector and seal from manifold heat, unfortunately they chose to use the same material seal for the injector sleeves. In my experience, the injector sleeve O ring is in worse shape than the injector seal and it needs to be replaced to do a proper job of it. If you want to do it properly, first grind down the stakes with a small carbide bit (Dremel), pull the assembly and then remove the injector. Replace the sleeve o ring and the injector seal, then use a flat punch to re stake the sleeve. Otherwise you will have a vacuum leak around the sleeve. Paul

I couldn't pull mine out. I thought you might need a special press so I brought all six to John Walker, just like you have it in your photo. He just wacked the bottom of the FI with a big rubber hammer and it easily popped out. When I saw that I thought, "Damn, I could have done that if I had known." JW tested all 6 FI's and they sprayed well.

Less brakes, more gas!

I just did this a few days ago. I used a screw driver and rubber mallet to get the injectors out and then a piece of scrap AL rod I had laying around and the mallet again to get the sleeves out.

I tried the rubber hammer trick intitially, but was afraid to wack it too hard and damage the business end of the injector. I ended up putting a vise grip on the wrench flats then prying up on the vise grip with a screwdriver.

A hard plastic mallet should work well........do yourself a favor and replace the plastic sleeves and o-rings.

Yeah, I had been trying to hold it between my knees and wack the injector out. Once I held it properly in a bench vise, they all popped out easily with a rubber mallet.
I soaked the injectors in carb cleaner and blew them out - all seem to be working fine. I've removed all the sleeves as well. I've ordered new sleeves and o-rings. Thanks. Geoff
