Can anyone tell me if you can you can apply the Carrera chain tensioner upgrade to a pre 69' chain case?
If yes is there a method of locating the oil line hole? thanks All! Panzer |

You can, but it requires welding a boss on the aluminum cover. If you are going to use non-original tensioners, it doesn't make sense to use the original chain box-- the newer ones have more studs and better sealing and work with the Carrera tensioner covers.

Or you can do what I did: abandon pressure fed tensioners for 930 tensioner with collars. Depends on if you want it to look original or not.
If you go with pressure fed and dump your covers, I would love to take them off of your hands.

I will go with the pressure fed tensioners; originality is not of importance.
I have the newer style, which I will get prepared for the Carrera upgrade I kind of blew it sending in the older ones to Ollies thinking it was an easy conversion and found out it might be more difficult when George gave me a look yesterday. Anyway the pre-69 aluminum chain housings will become available when I pick up all my engine pieces. They have already been cleaned and media tumbled so they look great. Thank you for the support guys. Dave |

which year 930 tensioners? and/or, does anyone have a part number? I'm preparing to do this in a couple of weeks on my 71T and I want to make sure I use the correct tensioner.
FWIW, I'm going to do the Jerry Woods mod in addition, as many on this board have suggested as a fail safe instead of the collars.

Do you have to modify anything else? I've was advised that on the 68 you have to modify the cam.
