Clarifying the dream 3.0 build

I'm starting to narrow the field of potential cars to buy. I'm really closing in on 78-79 SC's. I would like to get the car and do some bolt on mods and then eventually do a rebuild for the final push. The goal would be to make a 10lbs/hp car.

Starting with a large port 3.0

Bolt ons - PMO's (40 or 46's?) or ITB EFI
SSI's
M&K muffler

Mods for engine rebuild:

98mm pistons and cylinders
Twin Plug
12 plug dizzy
Tranny cooler
cams (unsure of grind)

Questions:

Am I out to lunch with my wish to get around 250-270 hp with good low to mid range torque?

Is there a better or more common accepted solution for this problem?

Are there any problems that I need to pay attention to or look out for?

Is there really any benefit to the big port heads on the early SC's?

You aren't out of line at all. A short stroke 3.2 should be able to get there without issues with the right cam choice.

Good read:

Question to all those who have a 3.2L Short Stroke W/46mm PMOs??
First Dyno Run
Wanna build a ss 3.2?

These should answer most of your questions.
