Power to the tranny?
I installed my rebuilt 2.7 to my 902 tranny and the clutch feels really stiff, than again I am used to my 356 engine clutch so I might not know any better. When I put the car in gear it goes forward, but if I give it gas it doesn't speed up.
Also, If the car is neutral it rolls down the hill (as it should), but in gear, with the clutch pressed, the car rolls down the hill as well, but there feels like there is resistance. Any ideas? PS the car is ridiculously loud with out a muffler. |

Sounds like the clutch is slipping

How much travel do you have on the clutch pedal? It seems like the clutch cable needs to be adjusted.

You are suggesting that you have both a slipping clutch and a dragging clutch.
You certainly have a clutch which is slipping badly if you can get the car started, but when you try to accelerate the RPMs go up but the speed doesn't! That suggests that the pressure plate is not pressing hard enough on the disk. Keep loosening your clutch cable until this problem goes away. You also think (but don't really know) that the clutch is not fully disengaging. However, the standard test for this is what happens when you are at a stop in neutral, and try to put it into gear. Especially into reverse, which has no synchronization. If you have even just a little drag you will grind the reverse gear when trying to get there, and at a minimum getting into other gears will be difficult (and may also do some grinding, depending). Do you have a grinding issue? As I recall, you put your 2.7 motor into a 912, and had to change the flywheel to do so. Perhaps somehow the pressure plate or the clutch disk you are using are a mismatch? |
