Is this on the engine case? should be one of these on each side of engine case, left and right side.
Is this a 3.0L or a 3.2L? If 3.2L engine, best guess...the 28th week of 1985 ...but I am no expert.

The purpose is just to keep track of production. If something does not meet QC specs, they can identify when and what die the problem occurred, then go and fix it and then inspect the ones that were made after that more closely. It also is nice to know when the part was made, just like it is nice to know when your car was made, even if an 83 is basically the same as a 78 or an 85. Fatigue cracking, for one, though this only seen in highly stressed engines.

By the way, just to make sure you know, it is an imprint from the mold, not a "plug".

I called it a plug because it resemble to wooden plug I made for a Windsor chair.
I do QA check on 1st Level casting for submarine valve and the likes but we use a different marking systems. What trough me off is the "look" of the bar between the Year and the Week as it does not really match its surrounding and being paranoid about finding bad news ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
