Todd - as all the nuts show the same thread , it is not a single bolt defect. I have used an endoscope to look at the back of the bolts. They are all seated perfect and did not overturn.
In that case I received the wrong bolts. These must be 2.0 bolts in 2.2 rods. I bought these from a reputable dealer , and as we do not live in a perfect world , I will get new ones from another source. |

Case apart again - cleaning Loctite off casehalves must be the top rated hobby on this forum.
New bolts suppose to arrive tomorrow. This time I will use my micrometer to make sure I receive what I paid for. Last edited by ErrieKruger; 08-21-2011 at 02:35 PM.. |

New rod bolts
New rod bolts received and installed - torqued to 39 Ft-Lb using oil as lubricant to overcome friction.
I will use Curil-T , Loctite 574 , Loctite 518 , and black RTV sealant to seal the case. That will cause 50% of Pelicans to agree with me. If I chose different sealants , 50% of Pelicans would have agreed. ![]() |

New ( incorrect ) bolt , and new ( correct ) bolt.
I wonder if using red loctite would have worked on the shorter bolts ? Given the hours I have spend on this , I will not take a chance. ![]() |

Threebond 1194 and 1104 ordered - will follow Henry's advice.
Hope to mate the case halves end of next week. That is the curse of living in an area where everthing needs to be ordered. Last edited by ErrieKruger; 08-25-2011 at 03:28 PM.. |

I was considering that , but because I missed something so obvious I wanted to make sure everything else is ok.
Still wonder if red loctite would have worked. Any replies on the torque I used ? Last edited by ErrieKruger; 08-25-2011 at 04:26 PM.. |

If all the threads were engaged you might have been able to get away with the mistake.
Locktite isn't highly recommended for rod bolts though. |

Change in gameplan
Henry - following your advice. The curse of living in an area where everything needs to be ordered and takes time , received the 1194 today.
Hope to seal the halves , and do some more, in the next week. ![]() |

As this is a magnesium case , even though an alloy , Threebond 1194 would be the case sealant of choice. Casework was done by Ollie's , and I hope to be close to perfect.
I am willing to bet my left ( or both my brothers's ) , that this build will not have an oil leak. Last edited by ErrieKruger; 09-03-2011 at 05:12 PM.. |

My son Stephan came to visit and gave me the extra pair of hands I needed to seal the case. Used Threebond 1194 , Loctite 574 and Curil T .
I used an acid brush to apply the sealants as evenly as possible , and was able to mate and torque everything in 23 minutes. ![]() Last edited by ErrieKruger; 09-04-2011 at 09:21 AM.. |

Torqued through bolts without o-rings , torqued perimeter nuts , waited 5 hours , and added o-rings to through bolts one at a time and torqued to spec.

Pistons and cylinders installed using a 1mm copper base gasket supplied by machine shop - based on work done on cases and heads.
Clips no problem at all - used a $2 tool from ACE. Not one flyer . Heads dry run - ordered new head nuts. Re-ordered flywheel bolts - received the incorrect ones a few months ago , and only realized that when opening them. ![]() |

I need 4 head washers , n/a from our host. As the others are perfect , it would be a waste to buy a whole set. Any suggestions ? Are there washers with the same specs and standards available at an auto shop ?
