Wow. We all know you are not the average garage DIY guy. In less that 3 weeks you have dropped the engine and split the case, done the heads & fuel injectors and the rest. I presume you are working by yourself.
Would you hazard a guess how many you have done this same basic rebuild?

Well, The fan and shroud are back from the powder coater. If this doesnt show up in a black body I dont know what will. Get it together today, might even get the engine up in the car.

I thought about doing this but how do you hold the cams against the spring pressure or do you just set it at the low spot on the cam?

It takes a little more to set the valve lash on the table because the heads have to be in an upright position and you have to find enough torque to turn against the rockers coming up on cam.
I ve done it that way for many years and for me it works. I can build a set of heads standing at the table and then put them up on the shelf until I need them. Bruce |

I got the engine off the table and headed in the proper direction. The bottom is hooked up. Clutch, starter, oil lines, ground, sway bar, etc. Any way the engine is hung and the tires are on the ground.

Slight off topic question!
Bruce, have you ever seen a problem with powdercoating the fan balde. If the coating flakes off does it just burn up on the cylinders? Does it ever cause an cooling air flow restriction?

Glen, I havent seen a problem with it. The idea of powder coat is that the color is stronger and resist chips. If the coat was to chip, I m sure it would burn off around the cylinders or get hung up on the tin under the cylinders. Of course there is always dirt and items drawn through the fan.

133K miles but it is euro so there might be some lost in the conversion.

Stopped raining long enough..12 quarts of oil in the tank, cranked for some pressure, hooked up the injectors and coil and got fired up on 20/50 for the startup oil.
A couple runups for temperature and I ll check the compression. Bruce ![]() ![]() |

Well, Not that there is a good reason but it was time to drive the car and get a couple warm ups on the engine. That completed, its time for the compression check.
This is a euro 10.3. Recently I had done a USA 3.2 @ 9.5 CR and hit 180# all the way around. This has to be higher.. 190# to 200# across the board, the top end is a success. Bruce Cylinder 5 ![]() Cylinder 2 ![]() |
