Anyone know of a speciality shop that makes timing chains or modifies them?

I am trying to help a good friend of mine out. He is looking for someone that makes custom timing chains or could modify his existing timing chain with a master link. Here is the message he forwarded me, and a picture of what he is dealing with. I would really like to find an answer for him if I could. He has helped me out on my race car ALOT. Here is what he sent me.....

I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster S 3.2 that suffered from a broken timing chain. What I wanted to find out is if there is a way that a timing chain could have a master link or connection link added. I have found chains for some of the older Porsches that use a connecting link but no one offers one for this engine at this time. With a master link i could replace the chain without having to split the cases.

Buy bulk chain from a supplier (McMaster-Carr?) with some master links...and make your own custom units.
Chains come in various sizes and configurations...some are listed as "heavy duty"...and some even have O-rings in them for more permanent lubrication.
What you are looking for is one that has double links...no O-rings...and the heaviest duty that will fit.
Be advised...the really heavy duty ones have thicker side plates..and some have no figure "8" pattern to them....more of a straight side link.
I would think the straight type might be better in the long run...because they do not stretch as quickly...and they would run over the tentioner bars better.

that looks a lot like an older 911 chain. if the dimensions are the same, try a 911 chain link kit. or just buy one and hold it up to your chain and see if it might work. just a matter of grinding off the ends of one link and sliding it off.

I suspect McMaster and the like sell just the master links in various flavors, as well as bulk chain.

Gotta be lots of Boxster/996 chains lying around that could be used for experimentation. Find a used/free 996 chain and do some test work on it with the 911 master link kit

Both chains are made by IWIS so I suspect there's some ability to interchange links?
