Oil Line Banjo Bolt
Previously posted in 911 Technical Forum...Sorry!
Am I missing this in Wayne's book? I see torque for plug and adaptor is 35 N-m But what is torque spec for oil line banjo bolt?.......see attachment Porsche surely has a torque spec with a value in N-m or KP-m....not just "tighten till snug" etc....Germans use quantitative engineering specs. ![]() |

That bolt is also 35 Nm but let me tell you that I do not feel good with that number. It feels like it is giving as I approach that number so I let it go at something less than that.
I know how you feel about German engineering and all. But, remember these are the same guys that came up with the head stud problems, OK.

Agree with yelcab on how it feels when tightening. Reason it doesn't feel good in my opinion is it depends on which seal ring you use. The cheap aluminum seal rings crush too much. The better OE Porsche rings are very tough and can withstand the torque spec of 35Nm for the solid bolt or the intermediate piece
That said, the torque doesn't need to be that much. As long as the bolt or banjo piece (be it male or female) is snug, it's going to seal OK. I know you don't like that, but its true. Go ahead and heavily torque a male banjo bolt. Then watch it snap off......

Watch it snap, classic !!!
This bolt serves no structural purpose, just tight enough to seal against oil leaks. So, tight enough is tight enough.

If the banjo fitting is lightweight aluminum instead of steel it shouldn't be too tight or it could crack while driving tha car and that would suck. Especially for a race car.
Oil the banjo bolt threads so they are lubed while tightening and tighten it a little more than snug but not real tight so it just seals and doesn't come loose either. |

That bolt is steel. The oil line is steel. The oil restrictor is steel, but the cam towers are alu.

Banjo bolt is definitely steel. But since it's hollow, that's what makes it easy to snap if you over-torque it.
