I don't know what the different markings mean. All you care about is the fit of the piston and the height of the cylinder. You can measure the fit by using a feeler blade between the piston skirt and the cylinder wall. Compare with your old cylinder. Should not be more than .004 inches clearance. The height is important so as to not bind the camshaft when installed.

Thats a casting number
What you want to match is the number stamped into the cylinder base 0, 1, 2 for size and the deck height inside a triangle, either 5 or 6 Both numbers are measured and stamped onto the top of the cylinder base, around 90 degrees from where you took the picture of the casting. Bruce |

Hi Bruce,
I have found some of the numbers; The original cylinder has a 1 stamped onto it, The new(used) one has a 0 stamped on it. Both were where you said. I can't see any further numbers. Can a 0 be machined to be a 1 ? Thanks in advance. Greasemonkey.

Does your piston have a one or a zero stamped on the face? It matches with the cylinder. Has to do with tolerances between the skirt and the cylinder.
