3.0 turbo distributor shaft play

Is there a spec/tolerance for up/down (axial) shaft movement. I'm measuring .090" shaft play. The distributor spins freely, the vacuum advance works, and no side to side play.
thanks.

There's a fiber washer/shim on the shaft inside the distributor under the centrifical advance mechanism and it usually breaks up and goes away after time.
It may be in pieces in the bottom of the distributor now and that could be why you have so much up and down shaft play.

Only way to replace it is drive or drill the pin in the drive gear out and then the shaft can be pulled out of the housing. I've done that on old BMW's but havn't risked it on a 930 distributor. There should be a little up and down shaft clearance but not a lot.
Probably best to send it out and have it rebuilt professionally.
