New rocker-should I return it?
Hello,
One of my rockers backed out and looks a little worn, so I bought a new OEM one from our host. I was wondering if I should deburr the top part, but in taking the picture, I wonder if it is even worth installing. Thoughts? ![]() Last edited by Neilk; 07-17-2015 at 04:16 PM.. |

Compare it to the new one, it looks anything but smooth and that's your valve lift.

That is the new one. The old one is a little marred on one side but looks much smoother.
So should I keep it? |

The top bit wouldn't worry me, but the surface looks horrrible for a new part. Return it.

Thats what a LOT Of new ones now look appear. Porsche's QC is not good anymore, which is why we look for use rocker arms and refurbish them.
Even new rockers MUST be reground so the pads are parallel with the cam lobes.

This casting clearly shows signs of porosity on its surface. It is possible that grinding may remove these defects but could also reveal more holes in the surface.
Not really very good at all. Our forged rockers are shot peened after machining and then Isotropically Superfinished (REM) before being Nitrided using a modern PVD process. ![]() Last edited by chris_seven; 07-19-2015 at 12:40 AM.. |

Thanks for confirming. I will return it and either get my old rocker resurfaced or find one that has already been reconditioned to proper spec.
