Broken Fin on Head
My first rookie mistake in my engine rebuild. During removal of the heads from the cam tower I was having trouble separating them. I should just kept tapping the top of the studs. But I tried to tap the bottom of the cam tower with a rubber dead blow hammer and caught a piece of the fin on the head. It broke off as you can see below.
![]() My intuition is that it's still reusable. But maybe I'm being hopefully optimistic. Do I need to replace this head. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A clean head will do more for cooling than that one corner fin:

Broken Cooling Fin........
Matt,
The broken piece from the cooling fin is negligible compared to the total surface areas. It will not affect the cooling charactics of this cylinder except for some mental anguish for the mishap. Once this cylinder is installed, it won't be visible anymore and you will forget about it. I think the accumulated dirt on your engine would have a more adverse effect than the missing piece. Tony |

Easy access for having someone weld it back on if it really bothers you. Then grind flat.

If he wants it " perfect ", simply buy another head to replace it.

This is not concours. I just want to make sure it's functional. Once I install it, it'll be forgotten.

That missing fin will have no effect on cooling. Cosmetics count but as the owner you choose.
