In order to avoid re-plating your cylinders, you need to precisely measure them with a 0.0001" resolution bore gauge and then have your JE or CP pistons made to the appropriate diameter. My recollection is the desired clearance for JE is 0.0015" and 0.0020" for CP. CP clearance is provided on their spec sheet, which I have

Yeah, that's sad. A couple of years ago I emailed him and asked him his opinion on a metallurgical question and he replied almost immediately with a long, thoughtful answer. Too bad.

Oh no, ditto. His technical engineering expertise was a giant benefit for those of us reading on technical issues. Even better, he was willing to explain things to us. I took his silence starting a while ago as a bad omen, and it seems it was.
