Any Idea about Cluster Problem

89 525i Changed a bulb or 2 in my cluster, start the car and hit the brake pedal and the cluster dies, all gauges die except for the tach. Restart and hit the brake same thing. Could it be a bad bulb giving me a short. Any ideas
