I have a 1984 745i and if I ease into the throttle under a load I can get pretty good rpm"s before it starts loosing power and popping. but if I press petal to the floor it immediately starts popping and stalling. I have replaced the fuel pump.

I would check the DME for fault codes using a BMW scan tool. Start with what code is stored. This will likely get you to the source of your problem.

if none are present, check engine timing and backpressure.
