Is it possible to adjust preload on Ohlins front shock without removing it?

This is a BM842
It seems impossible to me, am I missing something?
Also, why does the sleeve where the castle nuts on the shock body turn (see pic - section outlined in red)? I had to hold the shock in a vice and use a strap wrench while I adjusted the preload.

Yeah, I know how to do it. I couldn't get the spanner in place while the shock was on the bike and even if I could the sleeve would have just turned, not the upper nut.
Wondering if anyone knows a trick.

I know, I've just been trying to solve the same problem. There is no room for the spanners.

Check out Traxxion Suspension preload collars. They come with a torrington bearing to ease adjustment.

The TTX is the correct one for this shock. Their vendor Trackside Suspension has them listed.

I believe the sleeve is loctited on. You could check with Jim at Pro-Pilot , he supplied my shocks and was very helpful.

Also look at nylon tipped set screws for the collar so as not to damage the threads.

You can add an Ohlins preload adjuster to it. When I had pro Pilot do my 99 he added it. My BCR has it as well from Jeff having it done.

Yes the part # for that is 21681-02. Pro-Pilot quoted me $260 US last year.

I was concerned that since it was hydraulic it might not hold up.I guess yours has Vette Racer , good to know.

Yeah I just went through something similar with a similar model for my airhead. Stupid stupid design. One side i could only increase preload while I could only decrease on the other and the hell if I'm going to remove them to adjust it. I returned them and went with something else.

Same basic unit as rear, never had an issue.

My rear Ohlins remote preload adjuster has crapped out twice. Fortunately my spring rate is perfect for my weight with no preload. The front is perfect so I never had to adjust it.
