Do I wear ear plugs? Never! Real riders try and be as natural

Wow I didn't expect this thread to go where it did!
I'm glad to see Motorrad looking in. I work for a telecom vendor and I check in on news groups related to my products. It's a great way to find problems early or view trends leading to a possible issue no previoulsy found. I have checked the oil level and it's fine. This only happens after the bike is warm/hot (Texas heat). If I get a chance I may go by the dealer this weekend or ealry next week. Won't have time to ride the next 4 or 5 days. Carlos - Geez didn't you go on a test ride? I know the bike has it's quirks, but this is one of the reasons I bought it. As with every bike I've owned in the past, I've always done upgrades and the seat will be the same with this one (maybe if I were 20 years younger I could live with it for long trips). P.S. The Boxercup gloves from BMW are great and they have a lot more padding in the palm which I found to reduce the vibration. Also for in town riding, I get as close to the seat as possible to reduce the weight on my arms and also finding I grip the handle bars less tightly as I get comforatble with it. Dave

If BMWNA had any balls they'd let you rent the piglet for a month to really figger out what a piece-o-s hit it is. One test ride is not enough IMHO.
No...really...I really do like the bike but you guys remind me of the Buellers in the early stages of denial. I like the bike for its quirks, looks, sound and individuality but let's get f ucking real here. There are a lot of other bikes that offer more performance and value. Take the f ucking blinders off, dudes. BMWNA please buy my bike

carlos is full o' *****. and that is all there is too it. the S is obviously not the bike for him. but i would not have bought 3 i did not think it to be a the best all-round bike for my needs. dont have the budget for multiple bikes...albeit carlos thinks i am made of money. if you want more HP get soemthing else, if you want less weight, well then you really dont want a sport touring bike. the weight is nice on long trips. lighter bikes are a bit sketchy sometimes. i like the stability. do i like riding lighter biks? yep, especially if it is just to carve up the backroads, but that is not the only thing i do.
that aside...the oilhead engine can be kinda noisy. but ride a ducati with a vented clutch cover and you talk about noise...i sorta miss the sounds that came from my 916, but hey, i wear earplugs too. one thing you will realize is that not everyone that speaks as verbose as carlos know what they are talking about...i mean he cant even install an exhaust system by himself ![]() repoe3

Carlos has some good points and it's good to see everyone has feedback, good or bad.
Sure beats the hell out of the Corvette jewelry wearing whinners on the corvette forum. I'm not too worried about the weight of the S. Hell if I was that concerned I'd get off my arse and drop 20lbs myself LOL. I also looked at the Buell, but until they put the motor from their aluminum looking hotrod in it, I just couldn't do it. Just got my Boxer Cup back from the 600/1000 mile service and
the drivetrain noise is basically gone. The drivetrain gear oil is a light weight stuff for breakin. Once the 90 weight is in there, the noise level is essentially gone. Loren '04 Boxer Cup

Loren, I was just about to add that point about the light weight break-in oil. A friend of mine recently bought an 03 Prep and complained from the get go that the engine noise was driving him crazy. He actually did a valve adjustment to see if it helped, but evrything was in spec. Once the 600 mile service was performed everything was great.
Carlos, do you wear jeans when you ride? I found that my arse hurts way earlier when I wear jeans instead of leather. I guess it has something to do with the way leather holds you together more like a girdle would. But, I guess you might already wear one of those. Have you ever ridden better on a different bike? You know, we all have a threshold on our ability that is just really hard to surpass no matter what bike we are on. It comes down to a comfort level on which we go at that speed. I find that the S has a great comfort zone in all but the really tight stuff. And even there it is just a matter of technique that can make it work as good as most anything else. Geez, how fast can you really go on real world street stuff without going down anyway.
