Cyndy, that's good news. I completely trust Tony's mechanical assesment of the situation. I'm glad it turned out better than it could have been considering the circumstances. As long as the front axle still slides in and out of the front wheel and lower fork legs freely then I doubt there is anything out of alignment up front. Those painted and carbon parts sure add up in a hurry though don't they?

harrytief, sure there's still time. No metal has been cut yet but I need to let Mike know to order extra material right away. The clear anodize (silver) is really sharp looking so if you have any inclination towards that finish I wouldn't hestiate to choose that one. I'll try to locate some more pics of the clear. Personally for my own bike I prefer the black only because I have emphasized the black in a lot of other areas as well, but both finishes go well with any of the bikes. Let me know what you decide in the next day or two and I'll get you on the order list. Thanks. Oh, and don't forget to send lots of money.

harry, I don't have any more pics of the clear anodize clamps mounted on a bike but I have these two shots of the clear and black top clamps on the bench from the 1st run.

Scott.
I'm leaning to the black but I'll decide tonight when I get out and look at the bike. I'll let you know tomorrow morning. Hope that time line works but a consult with Her is also in order.

Harry, good choice... black is the fastest! If you don't believe me, ask Steve Carlton... he knows!

I believe Ralf has all the latest data and may in fact be correct on this subject but I wouldn't want to place any bets.

Harry, what color is your bike? You could always start a poll and have some of the members here "help" you with your decision. On second thought, turn off the computer and go sit in the garage until you figure it out. Just keep in mind there are no wrong answers on this test.

BTW, I received a check from SandCityFlyer yesterday for his clamps, thanks Jerry.

I'm thinking I'll take the black. I understand that black absorbs energy from incident light providing irrefutable evidence that black is fastest! My 2001 yellow and black has a grid network of power cells applied to the front of the fairings at the factory that black triples will nicely augment.
How would you like payment?

Harry, finally someone has uncovered the truth. Black absorbs light energy more efficiently than silver and is therefore thrust forward at a higher rate in daylight. As long as you always ride with the sun at your back you will no doubt be faster with black. Anyone remember having or seeing one of these radiometers when you were a kid...

Harry, assuming you are located somewhere in the Continental US, your payment of $550 can be sent via Paypal to fshartley@verizon.net , or a personal check can be mailed to me. Email me to exchange address info, and if you mail a check, allow a couple weeks for it to clear my bank.

Here is the latest order list. I have given Mike the go ahead to order material for a total of 15 sets of clamps which will cover any more late comers and let us get going on this run. I will update with a more definite delivery date when I get the word from Mike.

I'm a retired math prof who knew he was in trouble when an english major challenged the zero I gave him. I argued that "find x in the diagram" was not equivalent to "find Oscar" and that context counts. His challenge failed and I became fond of the phrase " find a correct value of x for the following conditions..."

Given the memory prompt stimuli you offer, I'm recalling that slope is some relationship of rise and run...

Stiffness Analysis

Scott,

I was just wondering if you also have the stock clamps mounted and if so ever ran a modal analysis on the two comparing stiffness quantitatively. You could also do that between the two designs you have made. Not that I want to steal your models and would understand why you would not want to send them but I would be willing to make a FEM up of the clamps and run analysis if that ever interrested you. Also I could run a stress analysis on them. Just incase you never did or wanted to. Again I would be leary about giving my models out so no hard feelings about that. This is what I do for a living so it would be fun to do it on something I use and not just stuff the goverment gets to play with.

Brandon, I have stress and deflection models for the parts that I used in the design. Unfortunately, I just spent two hours detailing all this info for this post but lost it all because I forgot to check "remember me" when I logged in. Kraaapppp! Got to go to work now...krrappp...dannggittt.

Update on Triple Clamps

I got the word from Mike that the triple clamps are scheduled to be machined starting next Monday, Nov 5. The parts will then need to be polished and delivered to the anodizer where they will take another few days to get finished. The parts should be in my hands within two weeks after they have been started. I still have 4 sets available at this time.
